If someone was just arrested in Galveston County, start with the Sheriff’s Police-to-Citizen Inmate Inquiry. Search the name, then compare the arrest date, booking agency, primary charge and age before opening the inmate detail.
The detail page can answer several urgent questions at once: whether a release date is showing, the total bond amount and the next court date. If the person was arrested only recently and nothing appears yet, the Sheriff’s booking process explains why a short delay can happen—and who to call instead of repeatedly refreshing the page.

The Galveston County booking process in plain English
The Sheriff says staff first check the paperwork for completeness and errors.
If required information is missing or incorrect, the arresting officer is advised to fix it before the person enters the normal booking queue.
Once the paperwork is acceptable, the person is placed at the back of the current booking queue.

Regular bond or fine
The Sheriff says most people will have a bond and/or fine connected with release. Families generally have two broad routes when bond is required:
- Pay the entire bond or fine amount as permitted.
- Contact a bail bond company and review its terms and rates.
The Sheriff specifically states that the office cannot recommend a bondsman.
Personal bond
A Galveston County personal bond is a sworn agreement to return to court and comply with conditions.
- The magistrate can order a personal bond for an eligible person.
- The public cannot simply apply for one.
- It is not automatic even when a person appears eligible.

Why paying bond does not mean the door opens immediately

A monetary bond, fine, personal-bond order, judicial paperwork or another condition may control release.
The Sheriff says the person does not enter the release queue until the necessary payment and/or paperwork has been received.

Shorts and skirts may be no shorter than three inches above the middle of the knee while standing.
Shirts and dresses must cover the shoulders. Clothing may not expose the midriff, back, shoulders, cleavage, thighs or other large skin areas.

Before mailing a letter, photograph or package, call the jail and confirm the current mailing address, required inmate identifier, envelope format and prohibited items.

Galveston County’s current commissary contract is with Keefe Commissary Network under a county contract running through August 2027.
