Municipal warrants are separate

A city warrant may never appear in a single county warrant list

Williamson County says it does not centralize every warrant. When the original offense occurred inside city limits, a city police department or municipal court may hold the warrant. That is why a county-only search can miss a Class C municipal case.

Round Rock Safe Harbor

Round Rock says a person with a Class C warrant issued by its Municipal Court may voluntarily appear before the judge at an Initial Appearance docket at 9:00 a.m. on Monday or Thursday. If the person makes a good-faith effort to resolve the warrant before it is executed, the court states that the person will not be arrested or jailed on that warrant during the voluntary appearance.

Taylor Safe Harbor

Taylor Municipal Court states that a person who voluntarily appears before a judge and makes a good-faith effort to resolve a Class C warrant issued by that court will not be arrested or jailed on that warrant before it is executed.

Justice of the Peace cases

County Class C warrants may belong to one of four Justice Courts

A ticket issued by a Williamson County deputy, constable, DPS trooper or another agency may be filed in a Justice Court rather than a city Municipal Court. The county warns that failing to contact the correct court by the citation date can lead to extra costs and possibly an arrest warrant for failure to appear.

Failure-to-appear warrant

May result when a defendant fails to respond to a citation or misses a required court appearance.

Capias or post-judgment warrant

Can arise after judgment or noncompliance with a court requirement. The issuing court is the best place to determine available options.

Arrest warrant in a new criminal case

May relate to a new felony or misdemeanor allegation. Search the related case and consider legal advice before appearing.

Bond-forfeiture or revocation warrant

Can occur after a release condition, appearance requirement or bond obligation is not satisfied.

Probation-related warrant

May involve alleged violations of supervision. Do not assume that paying a fine resolves it.

Round Rock warning: Round Rock Municipal Court states that paying a municipal citation online generally enters a plea of No Contest or Guilty, waives trial and results in a conviction. If the payment concerns an active arrest warrant, the court says the warrant is lifted when the paid violation has been processed—not necessarily the instant payment is submitted.

Cedar Park warning: Cedar Park likewise states that paying online can enter a No Contest or Guilty plea and produce a finding of guilt. Contact the court before paying when you want to know whether another option—such as a hearing, payment arrangement or other request—is available.
