Open the New Montgomery County Booking Photo Portal Without Getting Stuck at Login
Montgomery County no longer presents its jail roster as an unrestricted one-click mugshot list. The Sheriff relaunched the inmate search in May 2026 with a required user account and security verification. Once signed in, the system can provide available booking photos along with charges and bonding information.
If you are trying to identify someone who was arrested recently, start with the official county portal—not a copied mugshot website. Search the legal last name, open the possible booking, compare more than the photograph, and then check the matching Montgomery County court record before drawing conclusions about the charge or outcome.
The current inmate lookup is live and begins with sign-in.
New users must register before accessing inmate records.
MCSO says at least the inmate’s last name is required.
Search results can include booking photos, charges and bond information.
Call 936-760-5800 when current custody is unclear.
You may not need the same record as the person next to you
Create an account on the official roster, sign in and search the legal last name.
Follow the exact search pathCheck spelling, recent-booking timing, release, another county and court records before assuming there was no arrest.
Troubleshoot the missing resultA prior booking may not remain easy to locate through the current roster. Prepare a focused Sheriff records request.
Request the older recordThe booking photo cannot answer that. Search the appropriate Montgomery County criminal court record.
Verify the caseUse the separate Sheriff warrant search. A warrant result and a booking photograph are different records.
Use the warrant systemRecheck the current jail record, then use the separate official visitation account.
Go to family next stepsWhy Montgomery County makes you register before seeing booking photos
The extra login step is intentional. Montgomery County temporarily restricted unrestricted jail-roster access after scammers were using real-time arrest information to contact inmates’ relatives while they were worried and looking for release information.
On May 12, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office announced that its redesigned inmate search was live again. The new system added account creation and verification while restoring public access to available booking photographs, charges and bonding details.
Use the official mctx.org portal rather than a copied roster or scraper.
A third-party mugshot website does not need your county login credentials.
A caller knowing the inmate’s name or charge does not make the caller legitimate.
Call the jail or use official court and bonding information before paying anyone.
How to search recent Montgomery County booking photos
Go directly to jailroster.mctx.org. The current page redirects to the County Corrections Public Access Portal sign-in.
If you are new, select Create one and complete the official registration form.
Use the email and password associated with your official county account.
MCSO’s relaunch notice states that at minimum the inmate’s last name is required.
Do not identify someone from the photograph alone. Compare all available booking and identity details.
The portal can provide booking photographs, charges and bonding information when those records are available.
Record the inmate or booking information and case details you will need for court verification.
A jail page is not a disposition. Use the County Clerk or District Clerk court system next.
What the current inmate-search registration actually asks for
The account requirement surprises people who remember the older open roster. The current county sign-up page asks the person accessing the database to provide the following information:
Your first name as the user creating the account.
Your last name as the registered portal user.
Used to identify and access the account.
The current registration form includes a phone-number field.
The registration page asks for the user’s date of birth.
Select the identification type offered in the official form.
Enter the identification number requested by the secure portal.
The current form requires a password of at least eight characters.
Re-enter the password before submitting the registration.
Do not make the photograph do more work than it can
A mugshot is only one clue. Similar appearance, image quality and common names can cause incorrect identification.
Compare the legal name, age or date of birth when available, booking timing, charge, inmate identifier and court case.
The photograph is created during booking, before the final court outcome.
A case may later be dismissed, reduced, resolved by plea, tried, deferred or otherwise changed.
An old booking image can remain associated with an arrest even after the custody event has ended.
Reopen the inmate record or call the jail before travelling, scheduling a visit or paying anyone.

Need the actual booking-photo file instead of a current roster result?
A live inmate search and a public-record request solve different problems. If the booking is older, the person has been released, or you need an actual copy of a booking photograph rather than simply viewing the current roster, prepare a narrow records request.
- Full booked legal name
- Date of birth when known
- Approximate arrest or booking date
- Inmate or booking identifier if available
- Incident or offense number if available
- Criminal case number if available
Ask for the existing booking photograph, booking sheet or other specifically identified jail record.
A narrow request is easier to process than asking for “everything about this person.”
Check what happened after the booking photo was taken
The most important information is often not in the photograph at all. Once you find the correct booking, use the criminal court system to determine whether charges were filed and what eventually happened.

A warrant search is not a mugshot search
Montgomery County maintains a separate Sheriff warrant system. A person can have an active warrant without having a current county-jail mugshot, and an old booking photo does not establish that a warrant is active today.
The current warrant portal requires a full last name and at least the first letter of the first name. A middle initial is optional.
The portal also provides a warrant-number search when the number is already known.
If this is a family member, switch from mugshot searching to current-custody help
Reopen the inmate record before driving to Conroe. A photograph does not guarantee that the person remains housed there.
Keep the legal booked name and any inmate or booking identifier available in the official result.
Montgomery County operates a dedicated online inmate-visitation system with its own account registration.
What the current visitation registration asks for
Before paying a bondsman, commissary site or communication provider
Removing an image from a website and legally clearing an arrest are not the same thing
Correct an inaccurate record
If the name, date, charge or identity is wrong, first identify which agency or database created the incorrect information and gather the official document that proves the error.
Expunction
Certain Texas arrest records may qualify for court-ordered expunction. Eligibility depends on the exact arrest and disposition.
Nondisclosure
Some records may qualify for an order restricting public disclosure without being erased from every authorized government system.
Private mugshot website
A private site’s removal policy is separate from the government’s legal record. Preserve proof of the court outcome before disputing an inaccurate private listing.
Identify the arrest date, booking and agency.
Locate every charge connected with the arrest.
Get official proof of dismissal, judgment or other outcome when needed.
Correction, expunction, nondisclosure and private-site disputes are different processes.

How do I search Montgomery County Texas mugshots?
Use the official Montgomery County Sheriff County Corrections Public Access Portal at jailroster.mctx.org. The current system requires users to create an account and sign in. After registration, search the inmate’s legal last name, open the possible match and review the available booking photo, charges, bond and booking information. Verify the person’s identity and then check the matching court case for the legal outcome.
Why does the Montgomery County mugshot search require an account?
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office relaunched the inmate search with additional security in May 2026 after scammers misused unrestricted jail-roster information to target inmates’ families. The Sheriff reported investigating more than 55 scam cases linked to misuse of roster data. The new portal therefore requires registration and verification before jail information, including available booking photos, can be searched.
What information is required to create a Montgomery County inmate lookup account?
The current registration page asks for first name, last name, email address, phone number, date of birth, identification type, identification number, a password of at least eight characters and password confirmation. Register only through the official mctx.org inmate portal.
Can I find a Montgomery County booking photo with only a last name?
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s May 2026 inmate-search announcement states that at minimum an inmate’s last name is required to conduct a search after the user has registered and signed in. When several people share the same surname, use additional available identifying information before assuming a booking photo belongs to the person you are looking for.
Why is a Montgomery County mugshot or inmate record not showing?
Possible reasons include recent booking processing, a different booked-name spelling, quick release, booking in another county, a record that is not publicly displayed, or a portal-access issue. Search alternate legal-name variations and check the appropriate Montgomery County criminal court portal. For urgent jail-status questions, call Montgomery County Jail information at 936-760-5800.
Does a Montgomery County mugshot mean the person is still in jail?
No. A booking photograph documents an intake event and does not by itself establish current custody. A person may later be released, transferred or otherwise leave the county jail. Recheck the current inmate record or contact the jail before visiting, paying bond or sending money.
Does a Montgomery County booking photo prove guilt?
No. A mugshot is a booking photograph created during the arrest and intake process. It is not proof of guilt, conviction or the final criminal charge. Court records should be checked for filed charges, hearings and final disposition.
How can I request an older Montgomery County booking photo that is not in the current roster?
When an older booking no longer appears through the current inmate portal, identify the person’s full legal name, date of birth, approximate arrest or booking date and any known incident, inmate or case number. Then use the Montgomery County Sheriff’s official records-request process to request the specific booking photograph or booking record. Availability remains subject to Texas public-record laws and applicable restrictions.
How do I verify charges after finding a Montgomery County mugshot?
Do not rely on the mugshot or jail charge alone. For a felony-level District Court case, search Montgomery County District Clerk criminal records. For a county-court criminal matter, use the Montgomery County Clerk Criminal Records portal. Compare the person’s name, case number, filing information and disposition.
Can a Montgomery County Texas mugshot be removed or expunged?
Some Texas arrest records may qualify for expunction, while certain other records may qualify for an order of nondisclosure. Eligibility depends on the arrest, charge, court outcome and other circumstances. A mugshot disappearing from a website is not the same as a legal expunction. Obtain the complete court disposition and use current Texas court guidance or qualified legal advice before filing.
