Find a Hays County Booking Before You Call the Jail

If someone was arrested in or around San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Wimberley or another part of Hays County, start with the county’s public Jail Records search. Check the name carefully, open the matching booking and save the booking number, booking date, arresting agency and charge information shown.

If the person is still held, move next to Jail Bond Records. If you need the court date or final result, leave the jail roster and use the correct clerk: the District Clerk for felonies and the County Clerk for misdemeanors. The rest of this page explains what to do when the roster is delayed, how bonding works, and how to visit, call, mail or support someone in custody.

A jail roster is not a conviction record. A booking entry shows that a person entered the jail system and may show allegations, bond and custody information. It does not prove guilt, and the criminal charge or outcome may change after prosecutor and court review.

Jail records versus police reports

The booking roster and arrest narrative may come from different agencies

Need jail or booking records?

Start with Hays County Jail Records.

Search public jail records first

Need the incident narrative?

Identify the arresting agency. The Sheriff may house someone arrested by another police department.

HCSO handles the unincorporated county and provides law-enforcement service in areas including Wimberley and Dripping Springs, while San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and Uhland have their own police departments.

If the roster lists a city police department as the arresting agency, request the police report from that city instead of assuming Hays County Jail created the offense narrative.
