Guadalupe County’s Justice Courts handle fine-only Class C misdemeanor cases and can issue arrest warrants. The Sheriff’s citation instructions tell drivers to contact the JP listed on the citation rather than the Sheriff for pleas, fines or payment questions.

The Sheriff does not collect these citation payments. Guadalupe County warns that anyone claiming to be a Sheriff employee and demanding citation payment by phone, text or email is running a scam.
Do not confuse “appear by” with a scheduled trial. JP Precinct 4 specifically explains that the appear-by date printed on a citation is the deadline to contact the court—not necessarily a court-hearing date.
The Sheriff’s citation page states that failing to respond or appear can lead to an additional Violate Promise to Appear matter and a warrant-related fee. Resolve the citation through the listed court rather than waiting for enforcement.

  • follow a court order; or

Schertz online-payment warning: the city expressly states that paying a citation online results in a conviction for the offense paid. Requests for defensive driving, dismissal or deferred disposition must instead follow the court’s allowed procedures. Do not click “pay” simply because a warrant exists if you need to understand those alternatives first.
Other municipalities in Guadalupe County can maintain their own Class C cases as well. If the warrant or citation names another city court, use that issuing court rather than assuming the county records office can resolve it.

Guadalupe County’s Adult Detention Center is a 598-bed facility. Once a person is brought in, the Sheriff describes a sequence of booking, fingerprinting, photographing and holding pending magistration.

Booking The person is searched, the arrest paperwork is completed, fingerprints are taken and a booking photograph is created.
Holding After processing, the person may remain in a holding cell pending the magistrate process.
Probable-cause review The magistrate reviews whether probable cause supports arrest and detention.
Rights and charges The defendant is informed of the charges and constitutional rights.
Bail decision The magistrate decides whether to set bail, considers personal bond when appropriate and may impose release conditions.
Attorney appointment The magistrate can facilitate or make an appointment of counsel when appropriate.
