Galveston County, Texas · Live inmate inquiry, recent bookings, bond and court status

Check the Live Galveston County Jail List Before You Call, Visit or Post Bond

If you are trying to find someone who was arrested in Galveston County, start with the Sheriff’s Inmate Inquiry. The live roster can be searched by name and shows the primary charge, arrest date and booking agency before you open the individual inmate record.

Once you find the right person, do not stop at the roster. Check the inmate detail for the next court date, release field and total bond, then use the county’s current Odyssey court portal when you need the filed criminal case or final outcome.

How to search the Galveston County Jail inmate list

Open the Sheriff’s Inmate Inquiry The current public roster is hosted on Galveston County’s Police-to-Citizen system. Open the official roster
Start with the last name Enter the surname exactly as you know it. Add the first name when the surname returns too many people.
Do not look for a booking-number search box that is not there The current public Inmate Inquiry page presents first-name and last-name fields. Older guides that describe different roster fields may no longer match the live interface.
Review the roster columns before opening a person Compare name, race, sex, age, primary charge, arrest date and booking agency.
Open the possible match The individual detail page provides additional custody and case-related information.
Save the arrest date It helps connect the roster result to a recent-arrest entry, police report and court case.
Save the booking agency That agency may be the correct place to request the arrest narrative or incident report.
Check the next court date and total bond Use these as working information, then verify the court docket before making a legal or financial decision.
Name searches can be deceptive. If two people have similar names, compare age, sex, race, arrest date and known agency information before assuming you have the right person.

Recent activity tools

Use Recent Arrests and the Daily Bulletin for different questions

Recent Arrests

Helpful when you know an arrest was recent but cannot quickly locate the person in the main inmate inquiry.

The page includes identifying details and the displayed charge, but its own disclaimer makes clear that arrest does not imply guilt.

Daily Bulletin

Useful for browsing events by bulletin date and event type. The P2C key identifies AR as arrest, TC as citation/summons and LW as incident.

The Sheriff warns that some events may not be reported on the same day they occurred.

Have a report or case number? The P2C home page supports a quick report/case search. For example, an agency number displayed as 17-001234 is entered as 17001234 without the dash.
P2C says popup blockers must be disabled to view some generated reports. If clicking a report appears to do nothing, check the browser’s popup setting before assuming the record is unavailable.
Not on the roster?

What to check before assuming the arrest record is missing

There is no guaranteed P2C posting time published on the Sheriff’s current Corrections page. Be cautious with third-party websites that promise a specific number of minutes or hours before every new arrest appears.
Paperwork is being corrected The Sheriff says incoming paperwork is checked first. Errors are returned to the arresting officer for correction before booking proceeds.
The person is in the booking queue Once acceptable paperwork is received, the person enters the current booking queue.
Booking is still underway The process includes numerous questions, a mugshot and fingerprints in most cases.
The spelling is different Try the surname without a middle name, suffix or punctuation and check reasonable alternate spellings.
The person was quickly released Check Recent Arrests and the criminal court portal rather than relying only on a current roster.
Another county has the person The arrest may have occurred near Galveston County while actual booking happened elsewhere.
It was a citation instead A citation/summons can create a court matter without a traditional jail stay.
The court record exists first Search Odyssey when you have a known case but the roster no longer shows the person.

What happens after arrest

Booking and release are separate queues in Galveston County

Arrest paperwork arrives Jail staff inspect the paperwork for completeness and errors.
Errors must be corrected When information is incomplete or incorrect, the arresting officer is asked to fix it before booking continues.
The person enters the booking queue Once the paperwork is acceptable, the individual is placed at the back of the current queue.
Questions, mugshot and fingerprints The Sheriff describes booking as a lengthy question process that includes a mugshot and usually fingerprints.
Two short calls become available After booking is complete, the Sheriff says the person can make two free two-minute calls to facilitate release, notify loved ones or contact an attorney.
Bond or fine may need attention The Sheriff identifies paying the full amount or contacting a bondsman as the two ordinary monetary-bond routes and states that staff cannot recommend a bondsman.
Release paperwork must be complete The person does not enter the release queue until the required payment and paperwork have been received.
Identity and paperwork are checked again Jail staff recheck release documents and identity before the person is discharged.
Why this matters: “Bond paid” and “walking out of the jail” are not the same moment. Confirm that all required paperwork, cases and release conditions have cleared before driving to the jail.
Bond and first appearance

Galveston County has three different release questions

When is first appearance?

Galveston County states that presentation before a magistrate occurs no later than 24 hours after arrest in the county.

What if money bond cannot be posted?

Individuals unable to post their monetary conditions are reviewed within 12 hours of the initial hearing.

Can family apply for personal bond?

No. The Personal Bond Office states that the presiding judge must approve and order the bond.

Magistrate court is held twice each day, in morning and afternoon sessions, inside the Galveston County Jail. The county states that the magistrate, court staff, the state and a public defender are present.

Personal Bond Office

What a personal bond is

It is a sworn agreement to return to court as ordered and comply with the conditions imposed on the case.

Galveston County uses eligibility information and pretrial assessments to give the magistrate information during the Article 15.17 hearing and bail review.

What family should know

  • You cannot submit an application and guarantee a personal bond.
  • The presiding judge must approve it.
  • The published fee is 3% of the amount ordered by the magistrate.
  • The judge determines whether the fee is due before release or assessed as court costs.
  • The office lists money orders, cashier’s checks and jail checks as accepted payment methods.

Jail visitation

Check the schedule before driving to Galveston

The current Sheriff corrections page publishes visitation blocks of: 8:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m.–4:25 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.–11:40 p.m. Use the live day-by-day schedule and registration link before travelling because operational availability can change.
Confirm the person is still in custody Recheck the inmate roster shortly before the visit.
Open the Sheriff’s Corrections page Scroll to the current visitation schedule and use the county’s Register Here link associated with the visit schedule. Check current visitation
Do not assume an old vendor link is still correct Use the registration route currently linked by the Sheriff rather than a third-party article or saved bookmark.
Bring proper identification Visitors age 16 or older must have proper ID.
Know the visit limits The Sheriff publishes one visit per day, two visits per week and two visitors per visit.
A child may visit with an adult One child is allowed with an adult, and children cannot be left unattended in the visitation lobby.
Do not visit multiple inmates in one day The Sheriff specifically prohibits visiting more than one inmate per day.
Call before a long-distance trip Special extended visits may be requested for people travelling more than 240 miles and generally may not occur more than once every three months.
Emergency extended visits may also be available for circumstances such as a death in the immediate family. Contact the jail before travelling to confirm approval and timing.
Parking, phones and dress

The details most likely to ruin a Galveston jail visit

Parking is limited

The Sheriff says gated jail parking is off limits to the public and visitation parking is very limited.

Arrive early, park only where visitors are permitted and do not improvise a space; violators may be ticketed or towed.

Leave electronics behind

Phones, smart watches, portable game systems, tablets, laptops, cameras and audio/video recorders are prohibited in the jail front lobby.

Recording or photographing a visit can result in a permanent visitation ban.

Dress for the actual Sheriff rules

The dress standard is more specific than “dress appropriately.” Review it before leaving home.

Current dress checklist

No offensive or profane images or language
Shorts and skirts no shorter than 3 inches above mid-knee
Shirts and dresses must cover the shoulders
No exposed midriff, back, cleavage, thighs or large skin areas
No sheer or see-through clothing
No flip-flops, sandals, slippers or other open-toed footwear
Visitors can lose the visit for behavior too. The Sheriff prohibits exchanging visitors, visiting other inmates, loud profanity, vulgar conduct and disruptive behavior toward jail staff or other visitors.
Calls, mail, money and family contact

Verify the current provider before paying or mailing anything

One useful fact the Sheriff does publish directly: after the booking process is complete, the person can make two free two-minute phone calls to facilitate release, notify loved ones or contact an attorney.
Provider information changes more often than the jail address. The official Sheriff material reviewed for this article did not clearly publish one complete standalone set of current mail, commissary, trust-deposit and paid-telephone instructions. Rather than send readers to a potentially outdated vendor, confirm the provider with the jail before paying.
Before adding money
  • Confirm the person is still housed at Galveston County Jail.
  • Ask which deposit provider is currently authorised.
  • Ask which inmate identifier the provider requires.
  • Confirm fees and refund rules.
  • Read the recipient name carefully before submitting payment.
Before mailing a letter or package
  • Ask for the current inmate-mail address.
  • Confirm whether letters are delivered physically or digitally.
  • Ask how the inmate’s name or identifier must appear.
  • Check prohibited items and photograph rules.
  • Do not send cash unless the Sheriff specifically authorises that method.
Provider-verification call
I am trying to send [money / mail / a permitted item] to [full name]. Before I use an online service, can you confirm the jail’s current authorised provider, the inmate identifier I need, the correct mailing or payment instructions and any current restrictions?

Arrest and incident reports

Use the booking agency to find the police narrative

The roster’s Booking Agency field is useful because the agency that booked or arrested the person may be different from the Galveston County Jail. A city police department may own the incident narrative even though the person is physically housed in the county jail.

Correction and record clearing solve different problems

The record is factually wrong

First identify which system contains the error: P2C, the arresting agency’s report, the clerk’s court record or Texas DPS.

Obtain the controlling court order or corrected agency document and ask the office that owns the data to review the inaccurate field.

The record is accurate but you want legal relief

Depending on the exact Texas case, a person may investigate expunction or an order of nondisclosure.

Eligibility depends on the arrest, charge, disposition, waiting period and criminal history. Obtain the final court disposition before relying on a general checklist.

10 Galveston County roster questions

Galveston County Jail roster questions answered

How do I search the Galveston County Jail roster?

Open the Galveston County Sheriff’s Police-to-Citizen Inmate Inquiry and search by last name or first and last name. The roster displays the person’s name, race, sex, age, primary charge, arrest date and booking agency. Open the matching inmate detail and verify the arrest date, next court date, release date and total bond before relying on the record.

What is the difference between the Galveston County inmate roster and Recent Arrests?

Inmate Inquiry is the better starting point when you need current jail-roster information. The separate Recent Arrests page shows people recently arrested and should not be treated as proof that a person remains in custody. If release or current housing is unclear, call the Galveston County Jail at 409-766-2315.

Why is someone not showing in the Galveston County Jail roster after an arrest?

The Sheriff explains that incoming paperwork must first be checked for completeness. Errors must be corrected by the arresting officer before the person enters the booking queue, and booking then involves questions, a mugshot and usually fingerprints. The Sheriff does not publish a guaranteed P2C posting time. If the person is not found, check alternate spellings, Recent Arrests and the court portal, then call the jail at 409-766-2315.

What information appears on a Galveston County inmate detail page?

The current P2C inmate detail page includes the person’s name, age, race and sex, arrest date, release date, next court date, photograph and total bond amount. The main roster also shows the primary charge and booking agency. Court records should still be checked for the filed charge and final case disposition.

How soon does someone arrested in Galveston County see a magistrate?

Galveston County states that presentation before a magistrate takes place no later than 24 hours after a person is arrested in the county. Magistrate court is held twice daily in the Galveston County Jail. People who cannot post their monetary bond conditions are reviewed within 12 hours of the initial hearing.

Can I apply for a personal bond in Galveston County?

No. The Galveston County Personal Bond Office states that personal bonds must be approved and ordered by the presiding judge. The current published fee is 3 percent of the total amount ordered by the magistrate, and the office accepts money orders, cashier’s checks or jail checks. Call 409-766-2404 for current personal-bond questions.

What are the Galveston County Jail visitation rules?

The Sheriff’s current rules allow one visit per day, two visits per week and two visitors per visit, with one child allowed when accompanied by an adult. Visitors age 16 or older need proper identification. Phones, smart watches, cameras, tablets, portable computers and other recording devices are prohibited in the jail front lobby, and recording a visit can result in a permanent visitation ban.

Where should I park when visiting the Galveston County Jail?

The Sheriff’s visitation instructions state that gated jail parking is off limits to the public and that visitation parking is very limited. Arrive early and use only designated public parking areas because improperly parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed.

How do I find the final court outcome after a Galveston County booking?

Use the Galveston County Tyler Odyssey Portal for current criminal case information. The county’s old Tyler Public Access system reached end of support on December 31, 2025. Search the matching criminal case and review the docket and disposition rather than assuming the jail’s primary charge is the final filed charge.

How do I request a Galveston County Sheriff’s arrest or incident report?

Sheriff’s Office public-information requests must be made in writing. Galveston County accepts requests by email, mail or hand delivery to the Sheriff’s Records Division. Email GCSOrecords@co.galveston.tx.us, mail or deliver the request to 601 54th Street, Galveston, Texas 77551, or call 409-766-2320 with records questions.
