Dallas County Booking Records | Charges, Bond and Release

Dallas County, Texas · Jail location, charges, bond, holds and release status

Decode Dallas County Jail Charges Before Paying Bond

Start with the official Dallas County Jail Lookup System. Search by name and date of birth, or use the book-in number or case number when you already have one. Open the possible match and first confirm the jail location, tank location, book-in number and booking date.

Then read every charge, bond amount, warrant number and hold separately. The total bond at the bottom of the page is useful, but it does not prove that payment will cause release. Another case, a zero-dollar no-bond entry, an outside hold or unfinished release processing may still keep the person in custody.

A booking is not a conviction. Dallas County’s jail result shows custody and charge information available through the Sheriff’s system. It does not prove guilt, and the displayed charge may later be rejected, amended, dismissed or resolved differently in court.

What do you need from the booking record?

ARRESTED RECENTLY Confirm the person was booked

Search by last and first name, then add the date of birth, race or sex to reduce same-name results.

CHARGES Read every line separately

A person may have several felony, misdemeanor, hold or insufficient-bond entries under one book-in number.

BOND Do not use only the total

Confirm every individual amount, zero-dollar entry, warrant and hold before paying anything.

RELEASE Check what still blocks release

Posted bond does not clear another case, outside hold, no-bond entry or unfinished release process.

Official Dallas County search

Find the correct booking without relying on a name alone

Dallas County provides three separate search routes: prisoner information, book-in number and case number. The official site spells the identifier “Bookin Number,” while this article uses the more familiar term “book-in number.”
Open the Dallas County Jail Lookup System Use the Dallas County government portal rather than a mugshot or people-search website. Open the official jail lookup
Start with last name and first name Add the date of birth when known. Race and sex can narrow a long result list but should not replace stronger identity details.
Search the book-in number when available This is the cleanest route back to one displayed jail intake.
Use the case number for a known charge A case-number search may locate the person when the name was entered differently.
Open every plausible result Compare the full name, date of birth, race, sex, booking date and known arrest circumstances.
Save the jail and tank location These fields show where the person is currently housed inside the detention complex.
Write down the book-in number It is needed for mail, trust deposits and many jail-service questions.
Copy every warrant number Dallas County directs users to these numbers when checking the related felony or misdemeanor court case.
Read each bond amount and hold Do not skip lines showing zero-dollar amounts, insufficient bond or outside-agency holds.
Save the total bond—but do not treat it as a release quote The total is a mathematical summary of displayed bond amounts. It does not confirm that every release condition is satisfied.
Save before closing the page: name, date of birth, jail location, tank location, book-in number, booking date, every charge, every bond amount, every warrant number, magistrate, hold and total bond amount.

Charges, holds and bond labels

Read the full charge stack instead of the first line

Ordinary charge line

A charge line may display an allegation, bond amount, warrant number and magistrate.

Use the warrant number to find the court case and current judicial orders.

“Insufficient bond” label

This indicates that the displayed case has a bond-related status requiring closer review.

Do not assume the older amount, a prior payment or another case satisfies the current requirement.

Zero-dollar entry

The jail result explains that $0.00 means the magistrate did not permit a bond to be set for that entry.

Ask the assigned court or a lawyer what must occur next.

Hold entry

A hold may be connected to another county, municipal case, state agency, federal authority or separate legal process.

Ask which agency owns it and what event clears it.

Example: one total bond, four different problems

CASE 1 Cash bond listed

The amount may be payable, but only for that cause.

CASE 2 Insufficient bond

The current court order must be checked before payment.

CASE 3 $0.00 bond

No bond was permitted to be set by the magistrate for that entry.

HOLD Outside agency

Dallas County may not control when the hold is removed.

A total bond can look payable even while a separate zero-dollar entry or outside hold prevents release. Always ask the Bond Desk or Jail Information to read the complete record.
No-result troubleshooting

Why a Dallas County booking may not appear

Booking is still underway Intake, fingerprinting, medical screening, identification and magistrate review may occur before the public result appears.
The name was entered differently Try the surname alone, a hyphenated name, maiden name, former name, suffix or alternate spelling.
The person was released quickly A short custody event may be easier to trace through the Dallas County Courts Portal or arresting agency.
The arrest occurred in another county Search the county where the person was actually booked.
The case was a citation or municipal matter A criminal or traffic case can exist without a Dallas County jail intake.
The person entered federal or state custody Use the federal locator or TDCJ after a transfer out of county custody.
The record is legally restricted Juvenile, sealed, expunged and confidential matters may not appear publicly.
You have a case number but no name match Use the dedicated case-number search in the Dallas County jail lookup.

Search the warrant or case number first This is more precise than a broad party-name search.
Compare the defendant and filing details Match the name, birth information when displayed, filing date, court and booking timeline.
Read the newest bond order The amount in the court record may have changed since booking.
Review every count One count may be dismissed while another remains pending or ends differently.

Why posted bond may not produce immediate release

ANOTHER CASE One charge remains unpaid

Every separate warrant number must be reviewed.

NO BOND A $0.00 entry remains

The magistrate did not permit a bond to be set for that entry.

HOLD Another agency controls release

Dallas County may have to wait for pickup or clearance.

PROCESSING Release paperwork is incomplete

Staff must verify every cause, payment and restriction.

COURT ORDER The bond changed

A later order may supersede the amount initially displayed.

INSUFFICIENT BOND The prior bond no longer resolves the entry

Check the current court order before paying more.

IDENTITY Release recipient must be confirmed

Some questions require clarification about who the inmate is released to.

TRANSFER The person is moving systems

Another county, state or federal agency may assume custody.

Dallas County directs non-attorney release questions—including release date, who the inmate must be released to and whether bond posted—to Jail Information at 214-761-9025.
Release-delay call script
Bond was posted for [name], book-in number [number], on [date and time]. Can you confirm whether the bond has been received, whether another charge, zero-dollar entry, warrant or outside hold remains, whether the inmate must be released to a specific person or agency, and whether release processing is still underway?

The lookup may display “West Tower” for a person housed in that building.

Suzanne Lee Kays Detention Facility
111 W. Commerce Street
Dallas, TX 75202

The lookup may display “Kays Tower” for this direct-supervision facility.

Do not use an old jail location. Housing changes can occur after classification, medical placement, court movement or operational reassignment. Reopen the booking result before visiting or collecting property.

Property, health and wellness

Handle property release and medical concerns correctly

Property release
  • The requester begins at the front lobby or control centre.
  • The inmate must sign the property-release form.
  • After vault processing, the release must cover all property rather than individual items.
  • Clothing and other property require separate forms.
  • Bring acceptable government-issued photo identification.

Published hours: 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., every day.

Medical or wellness concern

Call Jail Information at 214-761-9025 for a wellness-check question.

Dallas County states that health services are provided regardless of ability to pay, although eligible medical fees may be deducted from the inmate trust account.

A family or public inquiry that causes a licensed medical assessment can result in a $10 medical-service fee charged to the inmate account, subject to published exceptions.

Dallas County states that a medical-fee deduction cannot reduce the inmate trust-fund balance below $6.
Arrest and offense reports

Request the narrative from the arresting agency

The Dallas County jail may not own the arrest report. The person may have been arrested by the Dallas County Sheriff, Dallas Police, Irving Police, Garland Police, a constable, a state agency or another department.

  • Use the Dallas County GovQA Public Records Center.
  • Select the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office as the department.
  • Provide the full name, DOB, arrest date, location and report number.
  • Describe the exact record: arrest report, offense report, incident report or identified supplement.

Details that prevent wasted time or lost money

Use “book-in number” for jail services

The official portal spells it “Bookin Number.” Save the number exactly as displayed.

Use the warrant number for court research

Dallas County’s booking result directs users to that number for the related court case.

A $0 bond is not a free release

The official result says no bond was permitted to be set by the magistrate for that entry.

No credit card for a cash bond

The Bond Desk accepts cash, cashier’s check or money order—not debit or credit cards.

Do not take your phone into visitation

This includes visitors who need a phone to operate an electric vehicle.

Trust the live SmartInmate confirmation

Dallas County currently posts conflicting video-visit timing and duration instructions.

Mail goes to Florida

Ordinary inmate correspondence uses the Smart Communications processing address, not the downtown jail.

10 title-specific questions

Dallas County booking, bond and release questions

How do I search Dallas County booking records?

Open the official Dallas County Jail Lookup System. Search by the person’s last name and first name, add the date of birth, race or sex when needed, or search directly by book-in number or case number. Open the possible match and verify the name, date of birth, jail location, tank location, book-in number and booking date before reviewing charges or sending money.

Can I search the Dallas County jail by book-in number or case number?

Yes. The official lookup provides separate searches for prisoner information, book-in number and case number. A book-in number identifies the displayed jail intake, while the case or warrant number can be used to locate the related Dallas County court record.

What information appears in a Dallas County booking result?

A Dallas County booking result can show the person’s name, race, sex, date of birth, jail location, tank location, book-in number, booking date, charge, bond amount, warrant number, magistrate, holds and total bond. The result may also display a booking photograph for a person currently in custody.

What does a zero-dollar bond mean in the Dallas County jail lookup?

The official Dallas County result explains that a bond amount of zero dollars means no bond was permitted to be set by the magistrate judge for that entry. A zero-dollar hold or charge should not be interpreted as a free release. Contact Jail Information, Bond Administration or the assigned court for the current status.

Why can someone remain in Dallas County Jail after the listed bond is paid?
