Check a Cameron County Warrant Through the Court That Issued It
A Cameron County warrant search is not a one-box lookup. A felony or county criminal warrant, a Justice of the Peace citation warrant and a Brownsville or Harlingen municipal warrant can live in different court systems. Start by identifying which court owns the case.
If you know the defendant’s full name, date of birth, citation number or criminal cause number, use the route below. You will also see how to confirm whether a warrant was served, how to check a Texas Failure to Appear hold, where to ask about bond and what not to do with an old or incomplete online result.

Use Brownsville Municipal Court for city citations.
Texas FTA is not a warrant database.

Start with the kind of case—not a random warrant website
Search the Cameron County court portal. Save the cause number, court and most recent docket entry, then verify unresolved warrant status with the appropriate clerk or Sheriff.
Follow the county routeUse the court printed on the citation. A Brownsville, Harlingen or Justice of the Peace case should not automatically be searched as a county felony case.
Find the citation routeUse the Texas FTA system to identify a reporting court. The FTA database itself does not tell you whether that court issued an arrest warrant.
Check the FTA distinctionSearch the Cameron County inmate roster. If the person appears, save the booking number, SO number and charges and then locate the related court case.
Check the jail routeSearch the Cameron County criminal case before calling about the warrant
When the suspected warrant comes from a felony case, a county-level misdemeanor or another criminal proceeding filed in Cameron County, the county case portal is usually the most useful first stop. You are looking for the correct case and issuing court, not merely a name match.

If the problem started with a ticket, read the court name first
A traffic stop in Cameron County does not automatically mean the case belongs to Cameron County District Court or the Sheriff. The issuing location matters.
A municipal citation may belong to Brownsville, Harlingen, San Benito, Los Fresnos or another municipal court.
A fine-only or traffic matter may belong to a Cameron County Justice of the Peace precinct.
A Class A/B misdemeanor or felony may move through a County Court at Law or District Court rather than the ticket-payment system.

A Harlingen city warrant should be checked with Harlingen Municipal Court
Harlingen’s official Municipal Court describes its jurisdiction as including Class C misdemeanor complaints, pleas, trials, post-arrest hearings, bond setting, driver-license matters and issuance of arrest and search warrants.
Do not mistake an old city warrant PDF for a current warrant database
San Benito’s official city website has a Warrant Listing page, but the document currently linked there is labelled “Warrant Listing as of 05.30.2018.”
A Texas Failure to Appear hold is not the same thing as a warrant result
If your concern began because Texas DPS would not renew a driver license, use the Texas Failure to Appear Program to identify the unresolved violation and reporting court.
What the FTA database can tell you
- A participating court reported an unresolved citation or judgment.
- The issue may block Texas driver-license renewal.
- The result identifies the court you need to contact.
- Each reporting court must be handled separately.
What it cannot tell you
- It is not a statewide warrant database.
- It does not contain every unresolved Texas violation.
- A listed offense does not prove an arrest warrant exists.
- No FTA result does not clear county or municipal warrants.

Check whether the person has entered Cameron County Jail
If the warrant may already have been served, use the Sheriff’s inmate list before repeatedly calling different courts.
How to request the warrant after it has been served
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 15 provides a useful distinction between searching for an outstanding warrant and obtaining the warrant after execution.
Gather the case facts before deciding how to resolve it
For a traffic or Class C case
Contact the issuing JP or municipal court. Ask what appearance, plea, bond, payment-plan or other resolution options currently apply.
For a felony or jailable misdemeanor
Consider speaking with a Texas criminal-defense lawyer before appearing, paying a bond company or making statements about the allegations.
Do not hire a bondsman until the actual bond is confirmed
A warrant search and a bond inquiry are separate tasks. The amount someone expected before arrest may differ from what appears after magistrate review.
How to find legal help without relying on a jail solicitation
Use the State Bar of Texas or a recognised lawyer-referral service, check current licence status and ask for a written fee agreement.
State Bar Lawyer Referral ServiceTexas indigent-defense guidance explains that a person accused of an offense that can lead to incarceration may request appointed counsel if unable to afford a lawyer and otherwise eligible.

Verify before sending money to anyone who says arrest is imminent
A caller demands money within minutes to stop deputies from making an arrest.
Gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers or cash delivered to a stranger are major warning signs.
Phone numbers can be spoofed. End the call and contact the court or Sheriff using a number you independently obtained.
If the case is too old for the modern search, use the District Clerk index
Cameron County District Clerk provides a separate QuickLink archive for historical index books. Its currently published collection includes criminal case index books from 1953 through 1987.

Leaving Cameron County does not automatically make a county warrant disappear
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 15.06 states that an arrest warrant issued by a county or district clerk or by a magistrate—subject to the statute’s municipal-mayor exception—extends to any part of Texas.

Cameron County active-warrant questions answered
How do I search for active warrants in Cameron County Texas?
There is not one verified public Cameron County Sheriff search that safely clears every type of active warrant. Start with the Cameron County court case portal for a county criminal case and look for the correct defendant, cause number, court and recent docket activity. Then contact the court or Cameron County Sheriff’s Office at 956-554-6700 when warrant status needs direct confirmation. Traffic and Class C warrants should be checked with the Justice of the Peace or municipal court that issued the citation.
Does Cameron County have an online Sheriff active warrant list?
A current countywide Sheriff warrant database that reliably covers every Cameron County warrant type was not verified during this page’s August 2026 official-source review. Do not treat an unrelated inmate list, old municipal warrant PDF or third-party people-search site as countywide warrant clearance. Use the Cameron County case portal and the issuing court, and contact the Sheriff’s Office when direct verification is necessary.
Does no result in the Cameron County court search mean there is no warrant?
No. A missing online result is not proof that no warrant exists. The matter may be filed under another spelling, in a Justice of the Peace or municipal court, in another county, in a restricted case, or may not yet be reflected in the public portal. Verify the issuing court and use the defendant’s full name, date of birth and cause or citation number when available.
How do I check a Brownsville traffic warrant?
Use the City of Brownsville Municipal Court when the citation was issued in the city’s municipal-court jurisdiction. The court’s main number is 956-548-7181. Brownsville also lists 956-574-6621 for record checks and traffic warrants and 956-574-6608 for magistrate, criminal-warrant and personal-recognizance-bond questions. Search the municipal citation system using the identifying information requested by the court.
Is the Texas Failure to Appear website a warrant search?
No. The Texas Failure to Appear Program specifically states that it does not have warrant information. Its database shows unresolved violations reported by participating courts that may block driver’s-license renewal. If an FTA record appears, contact the reporting court directly to ask whether a warrant was also issued.
Can I pay a Brownsville ticket online to clear a warrant?
Do not pay solely because you want a warrant removed without first understanding the effect of payment. Brownsville Municipal Court states that an online payment requires a guilty or no-contest plea and waives the right to trial and an attorney, and a conviction may be reported to DPS when required. If an active warrant is involved, the city says warrant-status processing can take two to three business days after online payment. Save the receipt and verify the updated status with the court.
How can I tell if a Cameron County warrant has already been served?
Check the Cameron County Sheriff’s current inmate roster and the court docket. The county says its jail roster is updated every two hours and includes certain people currently housed or housed within the previous seven days, but it is not comprehensive and excludes federal prisoners and detainees. Use the booking number, SO number, charges and court case to confirm that the record belongs to the correct person.
Can I get a copy of a Cameron County arrest warrant?
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 15 provides that an arrest warrant and supporting affidavit become public information beginning immediately when the warrant is executed, and the magistrate’s clerk must make copies available for public inspection during normal business hours. Ask the clerk of the issuing court for the executed warrant and affidavit and be prepared to provide the defendant name and cause number.
What should I do if the Cameron County warrant appears to be mine?
Write down the cause or citation number, issuing court, alleged offense and current status. Contact a qualified Texas criminal-defense lawyer or the issuing court to understand the lawful appearance, bond and resolution process before taking action. Do not send money to an unsolicited caller claiming that payment by gift card, cryptocurrency or wire transfer will prevent arrest.
Can a Cameron County arrest warrant be served outside Cameron County?
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 15.06 states that an arrest warrant issued by a county or district clerk or by a magistrate, except the specified municipal-mayor situation, extends to any part of Texas and may be executed in another county. Do not assume moving outside Cameron County makes a county warrant inactive.
