Bexar County Jail Bookings | Recent Intake Records

Bexar County, Texas · 24-hour arrests, seven-day booking activity and current jail help

See the 24-Hour Intake First—Then Follow the Booking Forward

If the arrest happened today or overnight, start with Bexar County Central Magistrate. Its recent-arrest search covers people processed there during the previous 24 hours for Class B or higher offenses. Save the SID and booking number as soon as you identify the correct person.

If you need more than one day of activity, switch to the Sheriff’s Jail Activity Reports, which remain online for up to seven days. Neither list by itself proves that someone is still in jail or shows the final court result, so this page also explains how to confirm bond, release, housing and the later criminal case.

Booking does not mean conviction. A recent-arrest or jail-activity entry documents an arrest or detention event. Charges can be rejected, changed or dismissed later. Verify the court case before treating the booking allegation as a final legal outcome.

ARREST JUST HAPPENED Central Magistrate Search

Use this when you heard about an arrest today, overnight or within roughly the previous 24 hours.

Best for SID, booking number, intake details, charges, bond and magistration information. Open the 24-hour search
LOOKING BACK SEVERAL DAYS BCSO Jail Activity Reports

Use this when the exact arrest date is uncertain or you want to review recent jail activity beyond the current 24-hour window.

The Sheriff maintains these reports online for a maximum of seven days. Open the 7-day reports
NEED CURRENT STATUS Inmate & Bond Information

Use this when the real question is whether the person remains in custody, what the current bond is, or whether a warrant is affecting release.

Call 210-335-6201 and have the person’s full name and date of birth ready. Review official bond information
Do not use the 24-hour list as a current-inmate roster. Central Magistrate can process a defendant who later bonds out without being transferred to the Adult Detention Center. Confirm current custody separately when that is what you need to know.

Go straight to the task you need

The sections are arranged around what families usually need after seeing a new booking, not around agency departments.

Recent intake workflow

Read a new Bexar County booking in about a minute

STEP 1 Open 24-hour intake Start at Central Magistrate when the arrest is fresh.
STEP 2 Match the person Compare name and identifying information.
STEP 3 Save SID + booking These make later jail tasks easier.
STEP 4 Read every charge Check bond and magistration for each case.
STEP 5 Confirm current status Call when custody or release remains unclear.

Exact steps for the Central Magistrate list

Open the official recent-arrest search The county describes this as a search for people arrested for a Class B offense or higher and processed by Central Magistrate during the previous 24 hours.
Scan the list for the booked name The summary table displays the name, race, a compact identifying-date field, SID and booking number. Do not rely on the name alone when several similar names appear.
Save the SID immediately You will need this person-level identifier for several Bexar County jail services, including mail and account-related questions.
Save the booking number separately The booking number identifies the intake event. Do not treat the SID and booking number as interchangeable.
Open the person’s detail record Review the true date of birth, intake date and individual charge entries before deciding that you found the correct person.
Read each case rather than just the first charge A person can have more than one criminal case, each with a different bond amount, status or release issue.
Compare arrest and magistration times These fields help show how far the booking has moved through Central Magistrate.
Read the bond amount and comments together Do not assume a displayed dollar amount means the person can immediately leave custody.
Save the case number You can use it later in the Bexar County Justice Information Portal to follow the criminal court case.
Call when the online answer is still ambiguous Central Magistrate handles very recent arrest questions at 210-335-6111. For current charges, bonds and warrants, use 210-335-6201.
What if you need yesterday or several days ago? Move to the Sheriff’s Jail Activity Reports. BCSO keeps them online for a maximum of seven days, but warns that a record can lag while a defendant is still moving through booking.

Bexar County Central Magistrate detail fields and the next question to ask
Field
What it helps identify
What it does not prove
Useful next action
SID
The person-level system identification number used in Bexar County detention records.
That every booking attached to the person concerns the same incident.
Save it for mail, records and jail-service questions.
Booking Number
The intake event currently being displayed.
The final result of a criminal prosecution.
Use it to distinguish this booking from an older one.
Intake Date
When the current intake was entered into the process.
The exact moment of the alleged offense.
Compare it with arrest time and police records.
Case Number
A criminal case identifier connected to the charge.
That the case has reached a final disposition.
Search the Justice Information Portal.
Arrest Time
The arrest time associated with the entry.
When the person finished booking or became available for release.
Compare it with magistration time.
Magistration Time
When the defendant was processed through the magistrate stage shown by the system.
That all release paperwork is complete.
Check bond, conditions and release information.
Magistrate Release Time
A release-related timestamp within the magistrate process when one is recorded.
That the person physically walked out of the detention complex at that exact minute.
Confirm current custody when timing matters.
Offense Description
The allegation associated with the displayed charge.
Guilt or that prosecutors kept the same charge.
Follow the later court filing.
Offense Type
The classification attached to the offense entry.
The eventual plea or judgment.
Use the court portal for the filed case.
Bond Amount
The bond currently associated with that charge or case.
That paying one amount clears all cases or holds.
Call 210-335-6201 before paying.
Disposition / Comments
A status or processing note associated with the magistrate entry.
The final court disposition merely because a booking-stage disposition is shown.
Use the Justice Information Portal for the court outcome.
Do not interpret “not available” as dismissal. A recent booking may simply be too new for a later court event or disposition to exist. Follow the case number forward instead of guessing what happened.

Why a Bexar County booking may be missing from the screen

Booking is still moving

BCSO specifically warns that information may not yet be reflected in its reports depending on where the defendant is in the booking process.

The person is outside the 24-hour window

Central Magistrate is designed around arrests processed during the previous 24 hours. Check the seven-day Jail Activity Reports next.

The offense is outside the search scope

Central Magistrate describes its recent search as covering Class B or higher arrests processed by the office, plus certain Justice of the Peace Class C matters.

The name is different

Booking systems may use a legal name, suffix or spelling that differs from the name family members normally use.

The person already bonded out

Central Magistrate can complete bond processing before a defendant is transferred to the Adult Detention Center.

The arrest happened elsewhere

Verify which county actually accepted the person into custody. A San Antonio-area incident does not automatically mean a Bexar County booking.

What to say when calling about a fresh arrest
I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], has been processed after an arrest that occurred around [time/date]. I do not yet have a SID or booking number. Can you tell me whether the person is still in intake, has been magistrated, bonded out, or transferred into the Adult Detention Center?

What happens between arrest and a Bexar County jail placement?

Arresting agency brings the person into intake The arrest may originate with BCSO, San Antonio Police or another law-enforcement agency operating in Bexar County.
Justice Intake & Assessment processes the defendant The 200 N. Comal campus brings booking, court, prosecution, pretrial, behavioral-health and medical functions together.
The prosecutor reviews the police submission The District Attorney’s intake function reviews information from law enforcement to determine whether the case presented is accepted for prosecution.
The defendant reaches Central Magistrate The magistrate stage addresses the accusation, bond and applicable release conditions. Once magistrated, bond amounts and special conditions are updated for public access.
Bond may be completed before jail transfer Central Magistrate says defendants are given an opportunity to bond from that facility without transfer to the Adult Detention Center when the process can be completed there.
If custody continues, detention services take over Family members should then use current jail information for visits, mail, trust funds, medical contacts and other services.
The court record becomes the long-term source Once the criminal case progresses, use the Justice Information Portal for court events rather than expecting the recent-booking page to tell the entire story.
This explains a common source of confusion: someone can legitimately appear in the recent Central Magistrate search but never become a long-term resident of the Adult Detention Center because the release process was completed first.
Bond and release

Check every charge before trying to get someone released

For current inmate charges, bond amounts and warrant information, BCSO directs callers to 210-335-6201. Have the person’s full name and date of birth ready.
Cash bond

BCSO says a cash bond is the full bond amount and is accepted by cashier’s check or money order only, payable to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The current page states that cash, traveler’s checks and personal checks are not accepted for this bond method.

Surety bond

Verify that the company is currently licensed in Bexar County before signing or paying.

The county Bail Bond Board regulates and licenses surety companies that operate in Bexar County.

PR bond screening: what the county currently asks for

Bexar County’s current PR Bond page lists qualifications that include Bexar County residency, being jailed on a Bexar County offense, positive identification and additional eligibility restrictions. First-degree felony charges are among the excluded charges, and a bond-forfeiture history can disqualify a defendant.

Before calling Pretrial, gather the correct spelling of the defendant’s name, date of birth, Texas driver’s license or state ID information, Social Security number, home address, telephone number, employer information and three local references with contact information.

Release-time reality: Bexar County’s PR Bond page currently describes four to six hours after bond approval as an average release period, while also warning that actual release time can vary because of unforeseen problems and delays. Treat that as a county-published estimate, not an appointment time.
The current personal-bond fee is generally 3% of the bond or $20, whichever is greater, unless the court waives the fee or assesses a lower amount for good cause.
Scam warning: BCSO says it does not accept payment by phone to avoid arrest and will not demand gift cards or cryptocurrency. Verify any surprise “bond” demand through the official county numbers before sending money.

[Unit location, if known]
Bexar County Adult Detention Center
200 N. Comal Street

Incoming personal mail is opened, inspected and scanned for viewing through the inmate kiosk. Bexar County says scanned mail remains viewable for up to six months; the physical mail is held for two business days after scanning and then destroyed.

Include the correct SID number
Add the unit location when known
Use a complete sender return address
Do not put cash in ordinary mail
Do not send IDs or original documents
Maximum six photos per envelope
Photos cannot exceed 5 × 7 inches
Do not send money orders or cashier’s checks with ordinary personal mail. Inmate trust-fund money has a separate mailing address shown in the next section.

Books require a different approach

Bexar County currently limits inmates to three paperback books in the cell. Books and publications must come through an established bookstore or directly from the publisher using USPS, UPS or FedEx. The SID must appear on the shipping label.

Amazon orders are allowed when delivery is made by a public carrier such as USPS, UPS or FedEx. The Sheriff warns against Amazon Same Day delivery through a contract carrier because those deliveries are rejected.

Follow the booking into the Bexar County court system

No public account is required. Bexar County’s current Justice Information Portal User Guide says registration is not required for public access.
Open the new Justice Information Portal Bexar County consolidated its older court-record, fugitive and bail-bond searches into this portal.
Select Smart Search The county user guide directs public users to Smart Search for cases.
Use the case number when you have it This is normally more precise than beginning with a broad name search.
For names, use Last, First Middle order The portal’s official guide specifies this name sequence.
Use an asterisk when spelling is uncertain The portal supports wildcard searching. Current minimums are one character for the first name, three for the last name and four for a case number when using the wildcard.
Open Advanced Filtering Options when results are broad You can narrow by location or area of law, party criteria, case type, case status, file-date range and judicial officer.
Use booking-related identifiers when available Bexar County’s guide says party criteria can narrow cases with an FBI number, Sheriff’s Office number or booking number.
Open the Case Number The portal displays the case summary and additional information after you select the case.
Scroll to Hearings and Events These entries are displayed in reverse chronological order, so the newest court activity appears first.
Use Show More or Show All The portal initially limits the events display. Expand it before deciding an older disposition or order is missing.
Large result list? The portal displays a maximum of 200 search results. Add the booking/SO identifier, file-date range or other advanced filters instead of manually reading hundreds of similar names.
Once the case page is open, your browser’s Ctrl + F search can help locate words such as “dismissed,” “judgment,” “plea,” “bond” or another specific event. Bexar County’s own user guide recommends the browser find function for long case pages.

A useful Bexar County exception

Some warrant cases can use the Booking & Release Satellite Office

Bexar County operates a Booking and Release Satellite Office for some defendants with active warrants who qualify to complete the magistrate and bond process without being taken through the main Adult Detention Center.

Potentially useful when

The person has a qualifying active warrant and wants to determine whether the county’s expedited booking-and-release process is available.

Not handled there

The county excludes violent offenses, sexual offenses, crimes against children, out-of-county warrants and out-of-state warrants from this satellite process.

When legal representation is the next priority

Do not confuse a jail booking service with legal representation

Public Defender

The Bexar County Public Defender represents qualifying indigent defendants after appointment by a jail magistrate or a county or district judge.

The Public Defender does not independently decide indigency and cannot simply be hired or selected by a family member.

Six small things that can save an unnecessary trip or payment

Save both numbers

The SID identifies the person; the booking number identifies the intake event. Keep both.

Do not stop at the 24-hour screen

A person can be released after magistration. Call when current custody is the real question.

Use the seven-day report for date uncertainty

It is faster than repeatedly refreshing the 24-hour Central Magistrate list for an older arrest.

Park for the task you are doing

127 N. Comal serves the main detention campus; the 222 S. Comal lot supports South Annex functions including Video Visitation.

Never mail trust-fund money to the inmate

Personal mail goes to 200 N. Comal; trust-fund money by mail goes to the separate P.O. Box 831609 address.

10 Bexar County booking questions

Recent jail-intake questions answered

Where can I see Bexar County jail bookings from the last 24 hours?

Use the official Bexar County Central Magistrate Search. The county says it shows people arrested for a Class B offense or higher who were processed by Central Magistrate within the previous 24 hours. The list includes the person’s name, SID and booking number, and opening a record provides additional intake, charge, bond and magistration details.

How far back do Bexar County Jail Activity Reports go?

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office maintains Jail Activity Reports online for a maximum of seven days. The reports are free. BCSO warns that some information may not yet appear while a person is still moving through the booking process.

Does appearing in the Bexar County recent arrest search mean someone is still in jail?

No. The Central Magistrate Search identifies people processed through Central Magistrate during the previous 24 hours; it is not a guarantee that the person remains in custody. Some defendants may bond out from Central Magistrate before transfer to the Adult Detention Center. For current charges, bond and warrant information, call 210-335-6201 with the person’s full name and date of birth.

What is a SID number in Bexar County jail records?

The SID is a system identification number associated with the person. Save it when you find the correct booking because Bexar County uses the SID for jail-related services such as mail, records questions and inmate account identification. Compare it with the person’s name, date of birth and booking number before relying on a record.

What is a Bexar County booking number?

A booking number identifies an intake event shown in the Bexar County booking system. The recent-arrest list displays a booking number with the person’s SID. Use the booking number together with the SID, intake date and case information when following the arrest into the county court portal.

Why is a recent Bexar County arrest not showing online yet?

The person may not have completed enough of the booking and magistration process for the public record to update. BCSO specifically warns that Jail Activity Report data can lag depending on where a defendant is in booking. Also check the spelling, determine whether the person was arrested for an offense covered by Central Magistrate, and call Central Magistrate at 210-335-6111 when a very recent arrest remains unclear.

How do I confirm a Bexar County inmate’s bond and release status?

Start with the Central Magistrate detail page to review the bond amount, disposition and magistration information. For current inmate charges, bond amounts and warrant information, call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Inmate and Bond Information Line at 210-335-6201 and provide the person’s full name and date of birth. Verify every active charge and hold before paying a bond.

Where is the Bexar County Adult Detention Center and where can visitors park?

The Bexar County Adult Detention Center is at 200 North Comal Street, San Antonio, Texas 78207. The county’s Comal Street Parking Garage at 127 North Comal Street provides covered parking for the Adult Detention Center complex. It operates 24 hours a day with self-pay stations; verify current parking rates before leaving the garage.

How do I schedule a visit after someone is booked into Bexar County Jail?

Register for an ICSolutions account through the official Bexar County inmate visitation page and schedule the visit after confirming the person is housed at the Adult Detention Center. Public visits are not held on Mondays. Current public visitation hours are Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with limited Sunday holiday exceptions. Contact Video Visitation staff at 210-335-8270 for facility questions.

How do I find the court case after a Bexar County jail booking?

Use the free Bexar County Justice Information Portal. Public registration is not required. Search the person’s name in Last, First Middle format or use the case number when known. Advanced filters can narrow results with a Sheriff’s Office number or booking number. Open the case number and review Hearings and Events, which are displayed with the newest entries first.
