Jefferson County Recent Arrests | Booking Reports

Jefferson County, Texas · Beaumont, Port Arthur and county jail bookings

See Who Was Booked Recently—and Whether They Are Still in Jail

Jefferson County publishes something especially useful for a fresh arrest: an official past-24-hours booking report. Start there when you only know that someone may have been arrested overnight or earlier today.

If you find the name, move to the Sheriff’s live inmate record. That second screen can show the Arrest ID, exact booking time, arresting agency, charges, degree codes, bond and bond conditions. If the name is missing from the 24-hour report, the current inmate roster and name search give you two more ways to check.

Recent arrest does not mean conviction. The booking report records an arrest and jail-processing event. Charges may later be changed, rejected, dismissed or resolved differently in court. Verify the final court case before describing someone as convicted.

Which Jefferson County arrest list should you open?

JUST BOOKED Daily Arrests Record

This is the closest match for “recent arrests.” The PDF identifies people booked during its latest 24-hour reporting window.

Best for: someone arrested today, overnight or during the most recent reporting period.
MORE DETAIL Live Inmate Search

Individual entries can show an Arrest ID, age, booking date, arresting agency, charge descriptions, degree codes, bond amounts, bond conditions and a booking image.

Best for: understanding the booking after you have found the person.
STILL IN CUSTODY? Current Inmate Roster

This roster is broader than the daily arrests report. It includes currently listed inmates whose original booking may have happened days, months or longer ago.

Best for: checking whether someone remains in the county corrections system.
Why the same person can appear differently: the daily report answers “who entered during this report window?” while the current roster answers “who is currently listed in custody?” A person can therefore disappear from the current roster after release even though the arrest remains in an earlier daily report.

Read the report window before searching the names Look for the line that says Subjects Booked in From…. If the suspected arrest occurred outside that window, move to the live search or current roster.

Match the booking date and arrest agency Beaumont PD, Port Arthur Police, Jefferson County Sheriff, Groves Police, Nederland Police, Port Neches Police, DPS and other agencies can all appear in the county booking report.

How to read the Jefferson County Daily Arrests Record

Jefferson County’s official PDF is titled Jefferson County Jail Arrests For Past 24 Hours. Each report prints its own beginning and ending time. Current editions reviewed use a 24-hour morning-to-morning reporting window, so always read the exact dates and times printed on the PDF instead of assuming that “recent” means midnight through midnight.

Fields published in the county’s 24-hour arrest report
Field
What it helps answer
What to verify next
Name
Who was entered in the booking report.
Match another identifier before relying on a common name.
Date / Time
When that booking entry was recorded.
Compare it with the known arrest timeline.
Arrest Agency
Which agency brought or reported the arrest.
Use that agency for the offense or incident report.
Age / Gender / Race
Additional descriptive information in the booking record.
Do not use one demographic field alone to identify a person.
Charge
The allegation attached to that jail entry.
Check whether prosecutors later filed the same charge.
Bond Amount
Whether a monetary bond is currently displayed for that entry.
Check every other charge and hold before paying.
Warrant Num
A warrant or cause identifier connected to the charge when published.
Use the number to route the case to the proper court.
Degree
The offense-level shorthand used in the jail system.
Read the filed court charge before making legal conclusions.
Useful distinction: the report can contain people arrested by city police departments and state agencies. A line that says BEAUMONT PD does not mean Beaumont operates the jail. Beaumont Police states that it does not have its own jail; prisoners are housed through Jefferson County.
Do not republish the daily PDF as a “criminal list.” It is an arrest and booking report. Some listed allegations may never result in a conviction.

What the newer Jefferson County inmate search adds

The newer Sheriff search is more useful after you identify a possible person in the daily report. Its individual record can include details that are easier to understand than a compressed PDF row.

An identifier attached to the Sheriff’s displayed arrest or booking entry.
It is the criminal court cause number.
Save it for jail questions and separately identify the court case.

Common degree codes you may see

F1 / F2 / F3

Common shorthand for first-, second- and third-degree felony classifications.

FS

Common Jefferson County booking shorthand for a state-jail-felony level entry.

MA / MB / MC

Common shorthand for Class A, Class B and Class C misdemeanor classifications.

Other codes such as MT, MU, CO, FU or UNK can appear in jail data. Do not invent a meaning from the letters. Use the full charge description, warrant/cause number and court record for the actual legal status.

Cause-number clues can save a phone call

DCCR in the cause

Often points toward a Jefferson County district-court criminal matter. Start with the District Clerk.

CCCR in the cause

Often points toward a county criminal misdemeanor matter. Start with the County Clerk/County Courts at Law.

JP in the number

Can point to a Justice of the Peace matter or originating warrant. Verify the precinct shown in the actual record.

Prefixes are routing clues, not legal conclusions. Older cases and outside-agency warrants may use different numbering formats.
Fresh arrest but no result

Why the person may not appear yet

Jefferson County’s official name-search page states that once an inmate is processed, details should become searchable within about an hour. That timing starts after processing, not necessarily at the moment of arrest.
Intake is not finished The Sheriff says intake includes a search, property inventory, identification processing, medical screening and formal booking.
The name spelling is different Try only the last name. The older official search specifically recommends a surname-only search when a full-name query fails.
The arrest falls outside the current 24-hour PDF Read the date/time window printed on the report, then use the live or current-inmate search.
The person was released quickly A short stay may no longer appear on a current-custody list even though an arrest record or court matter exists.
The person is in another county The alleged incident can happen in Jefferson County while the person is booked somewhere else on another warrant.
The booking is under an outside agency The daily report can identify “Out of County” or other agency involvement that changes where you should search next.
The event did not create a county-jail booking Some citations or municipal matters can proceed without a normal Jefferson County jail intake.
The court case is not filed yet A newly arrested defendant may first be in magistrate/pre-file status before the prosecutor files a district or county case.
Call script for a just-arrested person

What happens next

What happens after someone reaches Jefferson County Corrections?

Search and property inventory Personal property is taken, logged and bagged as part of the intake process.
Identification The person goes through the facility’s identification process.
Medical screening The correctional facility checks for obvious medical concerns during intake.
Formal booking The person is booked, advised of the charges shown to the facility and advised of available means of release.
Temporary housing A person who cannot secure release is dressed in facility clothing and temporarily housed before final classification.
Magistration The Jefferson County Magistrate reviews probable cause, advises the defendant of rights, considers bail and bond conditions and addresses appointed-counsel requests.
Case filing Felony matters may later be filed in district court; Class A and B misdemeanor matters ordinarily route to the County Courts at Law.
Jefferson County has daily magistration—even on holidays. That is why a booking record can exist before you can find a normal filed criminal cause in the District Clerk or County Clerk system.
The Sheriff describes the Jefferson County Correctional Facility as a short-term county facility. A later transfer to TDCJ or another jurisdiction changes the correct search, visit, mail and money system.
Bond and release

A bond amount is only useful after every hold is checked

Confirm the correct person Match the booked name, approximate arrest time and Arrest ID or another identifier.
List every charge A booking can contain multiple charges with different monetary or non-monetary release conditions.
Read the Bond Conditions field The newer Sheriff search can display conditions in addition to the dollar amount.
Look for charges showing N/A Do not interpret N/A as “free to leave.” Call the jail to find out why no amount is displayed.
Ask about warrants and outside holds Another warrant, parole matter or outside jurisdiction can affect release.
Confirm the current total before carrying cash The Sheriff’s current inmate-roster PDF warns that bond and fees must be paid with exact cash and instructs users to call Book In for details.
Use a licensed Jefferson County bondsman for a surety bond The county Bail Bond Board regulates surety companies allowed to secure bail for inmates in Jefferson County facilities.
Do not try to submit an e-bond The Jefferson County Bail Bond Board specifically states that the county does not accept e-bonds.
Keep the receipt and release paperwork Preserve the booking or Arrest ID, cause/warrant number, amount paid and any written bond conditions.
Call Releases before driving to pick someone up Posting bail does not mean the person walks out immediately; staff must complete release processing.
Bond-verification call script
I am calling about [full booked name], booked on [date/time]. The online record shows [charge/bond]. Booking to court

The correct court search depends on whether the case is felony or misdemeanor

Felony or grand-jury case

Start with the Jefferson County District Clerk. Its Criminal Division maintains felony and grand-jury case records.

  • Use the defendant name or indictment/cause information.
  • Compare the filing with the arrest date and booking charge.
  • Read later entries for indictment, dismissal, plea, judgment or sentence.
  • The online District Court Criminal Index does not include sealed, juvenile or other secured records.

Class A or B misdemeanor

Start with the Jefferson County Clerk and County Courts at Law rather than assuming every arrest belongs in District Court.

  • County Court at Law No. 1: 409-835-8470
  • County Court at Law No. 2: 409-835-8429
  • County Court at Law No. 3: 409-835-8698

Why a fresh arrest may have no court result yet: Jefferson County Magistrate Court handles defendants soon after arrest and can operate before a prosecutor has filed the normal felony or misdemeanor cause. Search again after filing rather than assuming “no court case” means the arrest disappeared.

What to look for after you find the case

Filed charge rather than only booking language
Cause number and assigned court
Bond orders and special release conditions
Grand-jury or charging action when applicable
Dismissal or prosecutor refusal
Plea or deferred-adjudication entry
Judgment and sentence
Final disposition for each separate count
A jail row can show several charges. Court outcomes must also be checked separately. One count can be dismissed while another remains pending or ends in a different result.
Before driving to the jail

Verify visitation on the day you plan to go

Jefferson County maintains a current Sheriff visitation page and a dedicated visitation phone number. Use those immediately before travelling because the Sheriff issues temporary visitation and commissary closures for holidays and operational reasons.

Confirm the person is still in county custody Recheck the current inmate roster rather than relying on yesterday’s booking report.
Save the inmate ID and booked name You may need both when creating an account or speaking with staff.
Open the Sheriff’s live visitation page Check current visitation information
Call the visitation line if anything is unclear The county phone directory lists visitation at 409-726-2565.
Ask about identification and check-in Confirm the current acceptable-ID rules and arrival requirement before leaving home.
Check for a holiday notice The Sheriff has issued specific temporary closures for visitation and commissary, so do not assume a normal schedule on a county holiday.
Parking/entrance note: the Sheriff pages reviewed do not publish a guaranteed visitor-parking arrangement for the correctional facility. If mobility, entrance location or parking is important, call the visitation line before travelling rather than relying on an old map review.

Commissary / inmate funds

Jefferson County’s official inmate-services page lists several money and commissary options. Always verify the inmate’s full name, ID and current location before submitting a payment.

  • Automated trust/commissary phone: 888-988-4768
  • Jefferson County Correctional site ID historically listed by the Sheriff: 164
  • Downtown Jail site ID historically listed by the Sheriff: 170
  • Access Securepak is linked for approved commissary packages.
Do not send money because someone called claiming an arrest. Search the person yourself and call the Sheriff using an official number. Jefferson County warns about scammers who impersonate law-enforcement or court personnel.
Personal mail

Jefferson County ordinary inmate mail is processed off-site

The Sheriff’s currently linked mail instructions state that ordinary personal letters, cards and photographs are processed through Smart Communications MailGuard. The material is scanned and made available to the inmate electronically.

The Sheriff’s mail instructions state that books are accepted only when shipped directly from a book publishing company.

Verify the address before every mailing. The MailGuard procedure was introduced in 2019 and remains the Sheriff’s currently linked instruction, but vendor-routing addresses can change. Open the live Sheriff PDF before placing postage on the envelope.
After release, the Sheriff’s mail notice says the former inmate can use SmartJailMail with the inmate number and password to retrieve available electronic photos, messages and postal-mail scans.

Counsel after booking

Jefferson County handles appointed-counsel requests during magistration

A defendant who cannot afford a lawyer can request appointed counsel. Jefferson County’s Magistrate Court provides an indigency affidavit and determines whether the request should move through the county’s appointment process.

Request counsel at or after magistration The defendant completes the county’s Affidavit of Indigent Status and request for appointed counsel.
Felony requests route to a District Judge The Magistrate transmits the indigency paperwork for a felony case to the appropriate district-court process.
Misdemeanor requests route to a County Court-at-Law Judge Jefferson County’s magistrate also makes appointments in qualifying unfiled misdemeanor matters under its indigent-defense plan.
Do not assume posting bond eliminates eligibility The county’s indigency standards say the judge should not treat posting bail itself as disqualifying except to the extent it reflects the defendant’s financial circumstances.

If the arrest later changes

Dismissal, correction, expunction and nondisclosure are different problems

Booking was accurate

The person really was arrested, but the case later ended differently. Obtain the final court disposition.

Booking data is wrong

Identify the exact incorrect field and contact the office that maintains that record.

Expunction

An eligible Texas expunction can address covered arrest records. Jefferson County says petitions are filed through the District Clerk.

Nondisclosure

An eligible order can restrict public disclosure without erasing every governmental record.

Save the arrest identifiers Keep the name, Arrest ID, booking date, arresting agency, charge and warrant/cause number.
Find the final court case Determine whether each count was filed, dismissed, resolved by plea or ended another way.
Obtain certified proof when needed A court-certified disposition is stronger evidence than an old booking screenshot.
Correct inaccurate source data first Contact the Sheriff for Sheriff-maintained data, the police department for its report or the appropriate clerk for court information.
Then evaluate legal record clearing Expunction and nondisclosure have separate eligibility requirements.
Do not promise that a dismissal automatically removes an arrest from every public or private database. Court disposition, correction, expunction and nondisclosure are separate processes.

10 Jefferson County booking questions

Recent arrest and booking-report FAQs

How do I see recent arrests in Jefferson County Texas?

Use the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Daily Arrests Record for the latest 24-hour booking report or the Sheriff’s live Inmate Search for individual booking details. The daily PDF identifies the report’s exact booking window and shows names, booking dates and times, arresting agencies, charges, bond amounts, warrant numbers and degree codes. Use the current inmate roster when you need to know whether the person is still listed in county custody.

What is the difference between the Jefferson County Daily Arrests Record and inmate roster?

The Daily Arrests Record is a booking report covering people booked during the report’s most recent 24-hour window. The Current Inmate Roster lists people who are in the Jefferson County corrections system when that roster is generated, including people booked before the last 24 hours. The live Inmate Search provides a more detailed individual record with an Arrest ID, booking date, arresting agency, charges, degree codes, bond amounts, bond conditions and a booking image when published.

How quickly does a Jefferson County inmate appear in the search?

The Sheriff’s official name-search page says inmate details become available for search within an hour after the inmate is processed. That does not necessarily mean within one hour of the street arrest because intake includes identification, medical screening, property processing and booking. If the person still does not appear, try the last name alone and call Book In at 409-726-2540 or the Correctional Facility at 409-726-2500.

What does Arrest ID mean on the Jefferson County inmate search?

Arrest ID is an identifier displayed on the Sheriff’s newer inmate-search record for a particular arrest or booking entry. Save it along with the person’s booked name, booking date, arresting agency and any warrant or court number shown. Do not confuse the Arrest ID with a court cause number; use the court number or defendant name to verify the filed criminal case.

Does a Jefferson County booking report prove someone was convicted?

No. A booking report records arrest and jail information available at that stage. Charges can be rejected, changed, dismissed or resolved differently in court. For a felony, check the Jefferson County District Clerk criminal records. For a Class A or Class B misdemeanor, contact the Jefferson County Clerk and County Courts at Law. Review the actual court disposition before describing the outcome.

Who do I call about a new Jefferson County jail booking?

Call the Jefferson County Correctional Facility at 409-726-2500 for general jail information. Book In is 409-726-2540 and Releases is 409-726-2541. The Sheriff’s main office is 409-835-8411. Have the person’s full booked name, date of birth and approximate arrest time ready.

How do I request an arrest report in Jefferson County?

Request the report from the agency that created it. For a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office report, use the Sheriff’s records-request process or email records@jeffersoncountytx.gov and provide detailed identifying information. If the booking lists Beaumont Police or Port Arthur Police as the arresting agency, request the police report from that city’s records unit instead of asking the county jail for the narrative.

How do I find the bond for a recent Jefferson County arrest?

Review every charge in the live inmate record or current roster and note the bond amount and any bond conditions. A missing bond amount or one payable bond does not guarantee release. Call Book In at 409-726-2540 to confirm all active matters before paying. The current Sheriff’s roster warns that bond and fees must be paid with exact cash, and the Jefferson County Bail Bond Board states that Jefferson County does not accept e-bonds.

How can I visit or send money to someone in Jefferson County Correctional Facility?

First confirm that the person is still housed in Jefferson County. For visitation questions, call 409-726-2565 and use the Sheriff’s current visitation page because holiday closures and schedules can change. The Sheriff’s inmate-services information directs electronic communication and remote-video users to SmartInmate and provides separate commissary or trust-account options. Verify the inmate ID before sending money.

Can a Jefferson County Texas arrest later be expunged or hidden from public view?

Some Texas records may qualify for expunction or an order of nondisclosure, but eligibility depends on the exact charge, disposition and other facts. Jefferson County states that expunction petitions are filed through the District Clerk, while eligible misdemeanor nondisclosure petitions may be filed through the County Clerk. Obtain the final court disposition before deciding which process may apply.
