Match a Harris County Booking to the Correct Court Case
When the arrest happened recently, begin with the Harris County Sheriff’s jail database. A surname and date of birth is usually enough to start. Once you find a possible match, save the SPN, booking date, jail code and every case number before opening another portal.
The jail result is only the first part of the answer. Use the Harris County District Clerk’s criminal search to see what charge was filed, what happened in court and how each count ended. The sections below also cover missing results, police reports, warrants, bond, release, visitation, digital mail, calls, deposits, appointed lawyers and record clearing.
Save the Harris County SPN from the jail result.
A last name alone works with at least three characters.

Second official route when you have a case or incident number
The Sheriff’s official Offense Inquiry accepts an offense or incident number, SPN, case type or Harris County cause number.
It may help connect a known police incident or court case with current jail, setting or disposition information.

- Use as many identifiers as possible.
- A possible name match is not fingerprint confirmation.
- Review the disposition and submitting agency.

Harris County arrest-record questions answered
How do I search Harris County Texas arrest records?
Start with the Harris County Sheriff’s official Find Someone in Jail database when the arrest may be recent. Search by SPN alone, last name alone using at least three characters, last and first name, or last name and date of birth. Open the possible match, verify the date of birth, and save the SPN, booking date, jail code, case number, charge, court date, bond amount and bond exception. Then search the Harris County District Clerk criminal portal for the filed case and final disposition.
Can I search the Harris County jail database with only a name?
Yes. The official search accepts a last name by itself when at least three characters are entered. A last name and date of birth is safer because Harris County has many people with similar names. Open every plausible match and compare the date of birth, SPN, booking date and case number before relying on the result.
What is an SPN number in Harris County?
The SPN is a Harris County person identifier used across local jail and criminal court systems. It is useful for reopening the correct jail record, scheduling services and searching related court information. It does not identify one arrest by itself, so also compare the date of birth, booking date and case number.
Why is a recent Harris County arrest not showing online?
The person may still be processing, may have been released quickly, may be listed under a different spelling, may have received a citation instead of a jail booking, or may have been booked in another county. Search with the surname and date of birth, check the Harris County District Clerk, and call incarcerated-person information at 713-755-5300 when the current status remains unclear.
Does the Harris County jail result show the final criminal outcome?
No. The Sheriff’s result shows booking, custody, case, charge, court and bond information available through that system. A booking charge can change after prosecutor review. Use the Harris County District Clerk criminal search and read the disposition for every count to find a dismissal, plea, deferred adjudication, conviction, acquittal or other final action.
How do I request a Harris County arrest or police report?
First identify the arresting agency in the jail or court information. Submit an HCSO-created offense or incident report request through the Harris County Sheriff’s Public Records Center. For a Houston Police arrest, follow HPD’s Public Information instructions and provide the arrest date, full name, date of birth, incident number, location and type of offense when known.
Where can I post bond for someone in the Harris County Jail?
HCSO accepts eligible cash or surety bonds at the Joint Processing Center, 700 North San Jacinto Street, Houston, Texas 77002. The HCSO misdemeanor warrant page states that the bonding desk is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Confirm every case, bond exception, warrant and outside hold before paying.
How do I visit someone in the Harris County Jail?
Check the current jail code, facility and housing location, then register through the official HCSO visitation page. Visits can be scheduled up to seven days ahead. General in-person visitation is Tuesday through Sunday in published afternoon and evening blocks, with no general visitation on Monday. Arrive 30 minutes early with acceptable original photo identification and the visit confirmation.
How do I send mail or money to a Harris County inmate?
Verify the person’s current jail code before using any provider. Personal mail for locally housed Harris County inmates is routed through the Securus Digital Mail Center and must include the booked name, SPN, housing facility, cellblock and sender’s full return address. HCSO currently directs local jail trust deposits through Access Corrections. Contract facilities use different mail and deposit procedures.
Can a Harris County arrest record be expunged or sealed?
Some Texas records qualify for expunction, while others may qualify for an order of nondisclosure. Eligibility depends on the charge, disposition, waiting period, prior history, probation or deferred adjudication and other facts. Obtain the complete Harris County disposition first and use current Texas court forms, TexasLawHelp guidance or a qualified Texas lawyer before filing.
