Check Who Is in the Lubbock County Detention Center Right Now
If someone was arrested recently, start with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Active Jail Search. You can search by name, booking number or Sheriff’s Office number. Once you find the person, save the booking and SO numbers before checking bond, scheduling a visit, sending money or calling the jail.
If the person is not showing, do not assume they were never arrested. They may still be processing, may have been released, or may be listed differently. This page shows the quickest official route for each situation and explains what to do after you confirm current custody.

Getting inmate property or a Lubbock County jail card
- Go to the LCDC Bond Window.
- Complete the property-release form.
- Present valid photo identification.
- The inmate is shown the identification and must authorize the release.
- The Sheriff generally describes the release as the inmate’s valuables bag in full rather than selected individual items.
A person seeking their own jail card can obtain it from the Records Department at the Lubbock County Detention Center.
A request for someone else’s jail card is handled as an open-records request.
What to do if an inmate has a medical or mental-health concern
The current Lubbock County inmate handbook says incarcerated people request medical, dental or mental-health care through the jail tablet system. For an emergency inside the facility, the inmate should immediately notify an officer.
Medical, dental and mental-health requests are submitted through the detention system for review and scheduling.
The handbook permits family-provided prescribed medication in its original container, subject to review and approval by medical staff.
Call the Detention Center or Sergeant’s Desk with the inmate’s name and SO number. Do not send medication through ordinary mail.
Need more than the current inmate roster?
A live custody search is designed to answer who is currently in jail. For a jail card, older booking material or other Sheriff-maintained records, use the Lubbock County Sheriff’s open-records process.

If the inmate cannot afford a criminal-defense lawyer
Lubbock County contracts with the Lubbock Private Defenders Office to manage court-appointed private counsel in non-capital criminal cases for qualifying defendants.
The court considers indigency and the type of charge. LPDO explains that qualifying cases generally involve a non-capital felony or a misdemeanor for which imprisonment is possible.
Fine-only cases generally do not qualify for appointed criminal-defense counsel.

Lubbock County jail inmate search FAQs
How do I search the Lubbock County jail roster?
Use the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Active Jail Search. The official roster allows searches by inmate name, booking number or Sheriff’s Office number, often called an SO number. Open the possible match and verify more than the name before using the information. The county also describes its jail roster information as real-time.
How can I tell if someone is currently in the Lubbock County Detention Center?
Start with the current Lubbock County active jail roster. Save the inmate’s booked name, booking number and SO number. If the person does not appear or the status is unclear, call the Detention Center at 806-775-7009 or 806-775-7048 rather than assuming the person was never booked.
Why is a recent Lubbock County arrest not showing in the jail search?
A person may still be going through intake, may be listed under a different spelling, may have been released, may have received a citation instead of being booked, or may be held by another jurisdiction. Try a broader name search and call the Detention Center when a recent arrest cannot be confirmed online.
When can someone bond out of the Lubbock County Jail?
The Sheriff’s current inmate FAQ says an inmate can typically bond after seeing a magistrate. Initial Appearance is conducted at least twice a day and sometimes more often, and bond settings are added to the online jail roster after they are set. Bond may be posted in full at the Detention Center Bond Window or through a local surety company.

The Sheriff’s current instructions say visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. General visitation is available from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the last visit scheduled no later than 9:30 p.m.
What should I bring to Lubbock County jail visitation?
Visitors over 17 should bring an acceptable original government-issued photo ID. Cell phones, purses, backpacks, food, drinks, pens, pencils and similar items are not allowed in the visiting area. Lockers are available, and the Sheriff’s FAQ specifically says to bring a solid quarter for the locker; the quarter is returned when the key is returned.
