Start with the last name
Enter the person’s legal last name. Add the first name if the surname is common. The form also includes fields for middle name and date of birth.
Add date of birth when identity is uncertain
DOB is especially useful when several defendants have similar names. Compare every identifying detail rather than assuming the first matching name belongs to the person you need.
Use booking dates only when useful
The search form includes “On or After” and “On or Before” booking-date fields. These are useful when you know approximately when the arrest occurred.
Open the matching jail record
Review the record carefully, then use the county’s separate bond, court, facility and release channels when you need information beyond current custody.
How to Read an El Paso County Jail Search Result
Do not treat a name match alone as confirmation. Jail information can involve people with identical or similar names, and custody information can change after a bond, transfer, court order, or release is processed.
Confirm the person
Compare the full name and date of birth or other available identifying information before relying on the record.
Check current status
The county describes the jail-record search as covering current jailings. The presence of a record indicates a current-jail context, but status can change.
Separate jail from court data

A blank result does not by itself explain what happened. Work through the possibilities in a logical order.

The Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau operates two adult detention facilities. Do not assume the Downtown Detention Facility and Jail Annex have the same visitation routing simply because both are part of the same county detention system.

Which Office Should You Use?
Bond, Bail and Release Information
A current-custody result and a bond result are not the same thing. El Paso County provides a separate Jail Bond Records option through its public records system.

Find Criminal Charges, Court Cases and Warrants
Jail custody answers “Is this person currently held?” Court records answer questions about filed charges, hearings and case history. El Paso County’s Records Search page provides separate access to criminal cases and warrants.

Use the county records hub and select Criminal Cases. Depending on the matter, records may be maintained through the County Clerk or District Clerk.

Adult visitors
- Visitors must be age 17 or older under the published requirements.
- Facility rules and staff instructions must be followed.
- The last visit is approved 30 minutes before closing.
- A group receives one shared 20-minute visit.
Children age 16 and under
The county limits children’s visitation to designated periods, including the first Saturday and first Sunday of the month during morning visitation. A child must be accompanied by an adult age 17 or older. Special holiday provisions are also published for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter and Christmas.

Inmate Phone, Messaging, Money, Commissary and Mail
Phone and electronic communication
The Sheriff’s Office provides inmate telephone, messaging, video-visitation and tablet-service information. Its current Jail Annex information points families to ViaPath for inmate communication services.
Commissary timing
The Downtown Detention Facility’s official programs page states that commissary is distributed on Fridays and funds must be received before 4:00 PM Thursday for an inmate to purchase items that cycle. The county lists in-person money deposits at Downtown Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:45 PM.
Mail sent for electronic delivery
The Downtown facility’s published instructions say friends and family send physical correspondence to a designated scanning address. The mail is scanned, reviewed and then delivered electronically to the inmate through the facility’s tablet messaging system.
