Dallas County Booking Records | Charges, Bond and Release

Dallas County, Texas · Book-in numbers, charges, bonds, holds and release confirmation

Follow a Dallas County Booking From Intake to Release

Start with the official Dallas County Jail Lookup. Search by the person’s name and date of birth, or use the book-in number or case number when you already have one. Open the matching record and save the jail location, tank location, booking date, charges, warrant numbers, magistrate and every bond entry.

A total bond amount does not always mean the person can be released. A zero-dollar bond, separate hold, insufficient-bond entry, second case or later court order can change the result. This guide shows what each field means, how to verify bond, where release occurs and which clerk holds the final criminal court record.

Official booking search

Search Dallas County by prisoner, book-in number or case

The Dallas County Jail Lookup provides three separate search methods: Prisoner Information, Bookin Number and Case Number.
Open the official Jail Lookup Use the county-hosted database rather than a paid people-search website. Open Dallas County Jail Lookup
Choose Prisoner Information when you have a name The form includes last name, first name, date of birth, race and sex.
Enter the last name first Add the first name and date of birth to narrow common names. Leave uncertain fields blank rather than guessing.
Use Bookin Number for one intake event Enter the exact number without adding spaces or unrelated court numbers.
Use Case Number when it appears on paperwork This can lead directly to a person connected to that criminal matter.
Open every plausible result Compare the full name, date of birth, sex, race, booking date and known arrest circumstances.
Record the jail and tank location These fields show the current tower and housing area but can change after classification or transfer.
Save the book-in number You may need it for mail, deposits, commissary packages and jail questions.
Copy every warrant number Dallas County directs users to these numbers when checking the associated criminal court cases.
Read every charge, bond and hold Do not assume the total bond alone determines release.
Before leaving the result page, save: name, DOB, book-in number, booking date, jail location, tank location, every charge, bond amount, warrant number, magistrate, hold and total bond.

Charges and warrant numbers

Do not treat the booking description as the final charge

What the jail page answers

  • What charge text is connected to the booking entry
  • What bond amount is currently displayed
  • Which warrant number appears
  • Which magistrate is associated with the bond
  • Whether a hold appears

What the court record answers

  • What charge was formally filed
  • Whether an indictment or information was filed
  • Whether bond was changed
  • What hearings and orders occurred
  • How each count was resolved

Common charge labels that require another check

Insufficient bond

The existing bond may no longer satisfy the current requirement. Open the newest court order and call the bond desk.

Indictment

A grand jury action may have created or replaced a felony case entry. Match the warrant number in the court portal.

Hold

A separate agency or legal authority may prevent release even when a Dallas County bond is paid.

Probation or parole matter

The normal cash-bond process may not resolve a supervision hold.

Municipal warrant

A city fine or warrant can appear beside county criminal charges and may require a separate court.

Duplicate-looking entries

Compare warrant numbers carefully. Similar descriptions may represent separate cases or later court actions.

Best practice: Write each warrant number on a separate line and search each one. One count may be dismissed while another remains pending.

List every charge and warrant number One paid bond does not clear another case.
Ask about every hold Determine whether another county, city, state, federal or supervision agency must act.
Confirm the current bond The lookup says the amount shown reflects the most recent bond set by a magistrate or criminal judge, but a newer court action may exist.
Choose cash or a legitimate surety company Dallas County warns against Cash App, wire-transfer and gift-card bond scams.
Prepare an accepted cash-bond payment Dallas County accepts cash, cashier’s check or money order payable to Dallas County.
Bring proof for a cashier’s check or money order It must be issued by a local DFW-area bank or financial institution, with proof of purchase.
Do not expect card payment Debit and credit cards are not accepted for posting a cash bond.
Keep the original receipt It may be needed for a later cash-bond refund after the case is finally disposed.
Wait for release clearance Jail staff must confirm every charge, warrant, hold and release condition before discharge.
Western Union is currently unavailable. Use the current Dallas County bond page immediately before arranging payment because accepted methods can change.

Release confirmation

Paying bond and leaving jail are separate steps

Bond or release order is received The jail must connect the payment or judicial order with the correct book-in and cases.
Every case is checked Staff reviews other Dallas County charges, warrants and bond entries.
Outside holds are reviewed Another agency may have to approve transfer or release.
Property and account processing occurs Personal property and remaining administrative steps must be completed.
Discharge is confirmed Call the jail before travelling instead of relying on the time payment was made.

The Sheriff directs non-attorney questions about an inmate’s release date, posted bond, release recipient, wellness check and warrant check to the jail information line.

Release-status call
I am checking the release status of [full booked name], date of birth [date], book-in number [number]. Has the bond or release order been received? Are there any other cases or holds? Is the person still processing, and can you confirm whether release has been completed?
Dallas County does not publish one guaranteed release-processing time. Do not promise transportation, work reporting or pickup at a particular hour until the jail confirms discharge.

Felony cash-bond refund

After a felony case is finally disposed, the person whose name appears on the cash-bond receipt—not necessarily the defendant—should submit the receipt to the District Clerk cashier on the second floor of the Frank Crowley Courts Building. The District Clerk currently lists cashier service from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Process a cash-bond refund before filing an expunction when applicable. The County Clerk specifically warns misdemeanor requesters to address an outstanding cash-bond refund first.

Dallas-specific cellphone warning: The Sheriff states that cellphones are prohibited. This can affect visitors who rely on a phone to operate or authenticate an electric vehicle, so plan before entering.

Disposition wording worth reading carefully

Dismissed

The charge ended without a conviction in that case, but the original booking may remain visible unless legal relief applies.

Non-adjudication or deferred

The result is not the same as a simple dismissal. Read the order and later discharge entry.

Not guilty or innocent finding

Save a certified judgment because it may be important for correction or expunction.

Arrest and offense reports

Request the narrative from the arresting agency

The Sheriff may house someone arrested by another department. The Dallas County jail record is not automatically the same as the police offense or arrest report.

Dallas County Sheriff report

Use the Sheriff’s Public Information Request route when Dallas County Sheriff personnel created the requested record.

  • Include the arrest or incident date
  • Add the book-in, case or report number
  • Describe the precise document requested
  • Ask for electronic delivery and a cost estimate

Under the Texas Public Information Act, I request the releasable arrest report, public portion of the offense or incident report, probable-cause information and identified supplements concerning [full legal name], date of birth [date], for the arrest or incident on or about [date] at [location]. Known identifiers include Dallas County book-in number [number], warrant or case number [number] and police service or report number [number]. Please provide a written estimate before processing if charges will exceed $[amount].
Corrections and record clearing

Separate an inaccurate record from an eligible record

Find the incorrect system Compare the jail booking, police report, felony or misdemeanor case and Texas DPS history.
Save identifying details Record the book-in number, warrant number, cause number, report number and exact incorrect field.
Obtain controlling proof Request a certified judgment, dismissal, amended order or agency correction.
Contact the record owner The Sheriff cannot independently rewrite a Dallas Police report, and a clerk cannot change a jail intake record.
Recheck connected databases A government correction may not immediately update private background companies.

Expunction

An eligible expunction can require covered agencies to remove or destroy records associated with the arrest.

Dallas County strongly recommends consulting a lawyer before filing because fees are not refundable and an incomplete petition can be denied.

Order of nondisclosure

A nondisclosure order restricts public disclosure of an eligible record but does not erase it from every authorised government system.

Do not bring a card for cash bond

Dallas County does not accept debit or credit cards for posting cash bonds.

Do not use Western Union

The current Sheriff bond page states that Western Union is unavailable.

Plan around the phone ban

10 booking questions

Dallas County booking, bond and release answers

How do I search Dallas County booking records?

Open the official Dallas County Jail Lookup. Search by prisoner information using the person’s last name and optional first name, date of birth, race and sex. You may also search directly by book-in number or case number. Open each possible result and compare the date of birth, book-in number, booking date, jail location, tank location, charges and warrant numbers.

What information can I use in the Dallas County Jail Lookup?

The official lookup provides three search routes: prisoner information, book-in number and case number. The prisoner-information search includes last name, first name, date of birth, race and sex. A book-in number or case number usually produces a more precise result than a name-only search.

What is a Dallas County book-in number?

A book-in number identifies a Dallas County jail intake event. Save it because it is commonly needed for inmate mail, trust-fund deposits, jail questions and other custody services. It is not the same as a criminal court case or warrant number.

What does a zero-dollar bond mean in the Dallas County Jail Lookup?

The Dallas County Jail Lookup states that a bond amount of zero dollars means no bond was permitted to be set by the magistrate judge for that entry. It does not mean the person can leave without payment. A separate hold, another charge or a later judicial order may also affect release.

Why is someone not showing in Dallas County booking records?

The person may still be processing, may have been released, may be listed under another spelling, may have received a citation, may have been booked in another county or may be in city, state or federal custody. Try the surname with the date of birth and call Dallas County Jail Information at 214-761-9025 when the current status is unclear.

Where can I post bond for a Dallas County inmate?

An adult may post an eligible bond in person at the Dallas County Bond Desk inside the Lew Sterrett Justice Center, 111 West Commerce Street, Dallas, Texas 75202. The desk operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dallas County does not accept debit or credit cards for cash bonds.

How can I confirm that a Dallas County inmate was released?

Recheck the official jail record and call the Dallas County Jail Information line at 214-761-9025. The Sheriff’s attorney-visitation guidance directs non-attorney questions about release dates, posted bonds, release recipients, wellness checks and warrants to that number.

What are the Dallas County Jail visitation hours?

For in-person visits, inmates with last names A through L may receive visits Monday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Last names M through Z may receive visits Tuesday and Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All inmates may receive visits Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are not processed during the final 30 minutes.

How do I send mail or money to a Dallas County inmate?

Personal mail should include the inmate’s booked name and book-in number and be sent through the Dallas County Mail Processing Center address published by the Sheriff. Trust-fund deposits require the inmate’s name and book-in number and may be made through Access Corrections, by telephone at 866-345-1884, at a jail kiosk or through a CashPayToday location.

Does a Dallas County booking record show the final court outcome?

No. The jail lookup shows booking, location, charge, warrant, magistrate and bond information. Search the Dallas County Courts Portal using the warrant or case number to find the filed charge, case status and disposition. Felony records are maintained by the District Clerk, while misdemeanor records are maintained by the County Clerk.
