Find a Dallas County Book-In Record Before the Status Changes

Dallas County’s public jail system is built around a person search, book-in number or case number. It is not presented as a simple scrolling list of everyone booked today. When the arrest is recent, search the person’s name and identifying details, then save the book-in number before checking anything else.

The book-in record can help you confirm custody, housing, charges, case numbers, bond and a booking photograph. It cannot tell you the final court outcome. Use the Dallas County Courts Portal afterward to see whether each charge was filed, dismissed, changed or resolved.

A jail booking is not a conviction. A book-in record shows that a person entered the Dallas County detention system. Charges are allegations, and a person can be released while the criminal case remains pending.

Official Dallas County search

How to locate a recent jail intake record

The current Dallas County lookup offers three search paths: Prisoner Information, Bookin Number and Case Number. Dallas County spells the identifier “Bookin Number” on the portal.
Open the official Jail Lookup System Do not begin with a third-party mugshot or people-search site. Open Dallas County Jail Lookup
Choose Search by Prisoner Information Use this when you do not have the book-in or case number.
Enter first name and last name The public form treats both name fields as required.
Select race and sex These fields are also required by the current prisoner-information form.
Add the date of birth when known The month, day and year fields help reduce similar-name matches.
Open every plausible result Compare the full name, date of birth, booking timing, charge and known arrest circumstances.
Save the book-in number immediately Use it for later jail questions, mail, deposits, records and identity verification.
Record every case and charge One booking can contain several cases with separate bonds or release conditions.
Check the housing or custody information Recheck the result immediately before travelling because housing can change.
Open the Dallas County Courts Portal Use the case number to see what happened after intake.

When you already know an identifier

Search by book-in number

Use this route when a family member, lawyer, officer or earlier jail result gave you the intake number.

Open book-in-number search
Search by case number

Use the criminal case number when the name search is too broad or the booked name is uncertain.

Open case-number search
There is no fixed publication time promised by Dallas County. A very recent arrest can exist before a searchable county book-in record is available.

Why an arrest and a county booking are not the same moment

Arrest or surrender A city police department, Sheriff’s deputy, constable, state agency or another jurisdiction takes the person into custody.
Agency processing The arresting agency confirms identity, paperwork, charges and any warrants before or during transfer.
Dallas County book-in The detention system creates the book-in number and begins intake, screening and property processing.
Medical and classification screening Staff determine health needs, safety concerns and an appropriate housing assignment.
Magistrate and bond activity Bond, release conditions and court information may change after judicial review.
Housing, transfer or release The person may enter a tower, medical housing, another facility or the release process.
Practical meaning: A relative can know that an arrest happened while the Dallas County search still shows no result. The person may not have completed county book-in yet.
Recent arrest not found

Why the person may be missing from the lookup

County intake is not complete The person may still be in identification, medical, paperwork or magistrate processing.
The person is still with another agency A municipal or other arresting agency may not have transferred the person into Dallas County custody.
The person was released quickly Check the criminal court portal and call jail information.
The booked spelling is different Try a former name, maiden name, hyphenated name, suffix or alternate spelling.
The arrest occurred in another county Search the actual county of booking rather than the person’s home county.
The event was a citation A criminal or municipal case can exist without a Dallas County jail intake.
The person moved to state or federal custody Use TDCJ or the federal inmate locator after a confirmed transfer.
The record is legally restricted Juvenile, sealed, expunged and confidential records may not appear publicly.

Do not ask staff to disclose protected medical information that they cannot legally release.

Dallas County states that health services are provided regardless of the inmate’s ability to pay.
Dallas County currently publishes a $10 medical fee for an inmate request, verbal request, incident assessment or outside inquiry that results in assessment by licensed health staff. The fee is not deducted when it would reduce the inmate account below $6, and listed exceptions include intake screening, prescribed medication and certain mental-health or follow-up services.

The Dallas County Wanted Search accepts several search methods, including name, ZIP code, case number, citation number, licence plate or VIN and demographic information.
Dallas County warns that wanted and delinquent information may not be current enough for a legal decision because an account or warrant status can change before the online list updates. Do not confront or attempt to detain anyone.

Contact the office that owns the entry The Sheriff cannot rewrite a Dallas Police report, and a clerk cannot independently change a jail-intake record.
Consider legal record clearing Eligible Texas cases may qualify for expunction or an order of nondisclosure.
Correction is not expunction. Correction fixes inaccurate information. Expunction or nondisclosure concerns an accurate record that may qualify for legal relief.

10 booking questions

Dallas County jail booking questions answered

How do I find recent Dallas County jail bookings?

Open the official Dallas County Jail Lookup System. Search by prisoner information, book-in number or case number. A prisoner-information search requires the first name, last name, race and sex; adding the date of birth helps narrow similar names. Open the possible match and save the book-in number, booking date, housing location, charges, case numbers, bond and custody status.

Does Dallas County publish a browsable list of everyone booked today?

The current public Dallas County jail lookup is primarily a person, book-in-number and case-number search rather than a simple chronological list of everyone booked today. When you do not know the book-in number, search the person’s name and identifying details. Call jail information at 214-761-9025 when a very recent intake is not yet visible.

What information is required for a Dallas County inmate name search?

The official prisoner-information form requires the first name, last name, race and sex. Date-of-birth fields are also available and should be used when known because they reduce the risk of selecting a person with a similar name.

What is a Dallas County book-in number?

The book-in number identifies a Dallas County jail intake record. It is useful when checking custody, requesting jail information, sending personal mail, depositing money or confirming the correct booking. A book-in number identifies the jail event, not the final court outcome.

Why is a recent Dallas County arrest not showing in the jail lookup?

The person may still be processing, may be listed under a different spelling, may have been released before the search, may remain in another agency’s custody, may have received a citation instead of a county-jail booking or may have been booked in another county. Retry the search and call Dallas County jail information at 214-761-9025 when the status remains unclear.

How do I check a Dallas County inmate’s bond or release status?

Open the Dallas County Jail Lookup and record every case number and bond entry. Then call jail information at 214-761-9025 to confirm whether bond was posted, whether another case or hold prevents release and who the person may be released to. Dallas County warns that bonds are posted in person through the Bond Desk or a legitimate licensed bail bond company.

Can I see a Dallas County booking photo?

The Sheriff’s Public Information Officer states that a booking photo for a person currently in Dallas County custody may be available through the Jail Lookup. For someone no longer in custody, follow the Sheriff’s booking-photo request instructions and provide the person’s name, date of birth and charge information.

How do I visit someone in the Dallas County Jail?

Check the person’s current housing location and make sure you are listed on the visitor card. In-person weekday visitation is based on the inmate’s last name: A through L on Monday and Thursday evenings, and M through Z on Tuesday and Friday evenings. All inmates may receive eligible visitors on weekends. Dallas County also offers scheduled video visits through SmartInmate.

How do I send mail or money to a Dallas County inmate?

Personal mail must include the inmate’s booked name and book-in number and be sent through the current Dallas County mail-processing address listed by the Sheriff. Deposits require the inmate’s name and book-in number and may be made through a jail kiosk, Access Corrections, CashPayToday or the telephone deposit line at 866-345-1884. Confirm current instructions before mailing or paying.

Where do I find the final outcome of a Dallas County booking?

Use the Dallas County and District Court Case Information Portal. It includes felony and misdemeanor case information. Search the case number from the jail result or search the person’s name, then read the docket and disposition for every count. The jail record alone does not prove dismissal, conviction or another final result.
