Find a Dallas County Book-In and Follow the Case to Court

Use the Dallas County Jail Lookup when someone may have been arrested recently. Search by prisoner details, a known book-in number or a case number. Open the matching record and save the book-in number, book-in date, jail location, charges, warrant numbers and bond information.

Dallas County does not currently provide a separate public page that simply lists every booking in chronological order. To confirm a recent booking, locate the person and check the book-in date in the result. Then use the county criminal court search to see whether each charge became a filed felony or misdemeanor case.

Official Dallas jail lookup

Search by prisoner details, book-in number or case number

Dallas County spelling: The official portal labels the local identifier as a “Bookin Number.” This article uses the more readable “book-in number,” but both refer to the same jail identifier.
Open the Dallas County Jail Lookup Use the official county form rather than a third-party people-search page. Open Dallas County Jail Lookup
Choose prisoner information when you know the person’s identity Enter the first and last name, then select race and sex. Those fields are required by the current name-search form.
Add the date of birth when available Month, day and year help separate people who have similar names.
Use the book-in number for one specific intake This is the fastest search when the jail or family has already provided the number.
Use the case-number route when court information is known Enter the exact Dallas County case or warrant number without adding unrelated characters.
Open every plausible match Compare the full name, date of birth, race, sex and book-in date before relying on the result.
Check the book-in date for recency Dallas County does not currently expose a separate date-filtered recent-booking list on the public search form.
Save the jail and tank location Recheck both before travelling because housing assignments can change.
Record every charge and warrant number One booking may contain several cases with different bonds, holds and court outcomes.
Continue to the criminal case search Use the warrant or cause number shown in the jail result to locate the related court case.
Save before closing the result: booked name, date of birth, jail location, tank location, book-in number, book-in date, each charge, each bond amount, each warrant or cause number, magistrate name, holds and total bond.
Do not search or publish from a name alone. Dallas County contains many same-name records. Match the date of birth and at least one additional identifier such as the book-in number, booking date or warrant number.

Why a recent arrest may not appear

Booking is still underway Identity checks, medical screening, fingerprinting and magistrate processing can occur before the public entry is complete.
The name fields are incomplete The name search currently requires first name, last name, race and sex. Missing required selections can prevent a result.
The spelling differs Try a hyphenated surname, former name, maiden name, suffix or another spelling used during booking.
The person was released quickly Search the criminal court record or ask the arresting agency when the current jail page no longer returns the person.

Dallas County’s free Criminal Background Search includes felony and misdemeanor case information dating from 1975 to the present. The search can be run by name or case number.
Open the Dallas County Criminal Background Search Open the felony and misdemeanor search
Search by the warrant or case number first A number copied from the jail detail is more precise than a common name.
Use the name search when the case number is unknown Enter the required last name and add the first name, middle name and date of birth.
Use race, sex and pending filters carefully These fields can reduce irrelevant matches but should not replace identity verification.
Compare the filing date with the book-in date A court case should logically connect to the arrest event being researched.
Determine whether the case is felony or misdemeanor This identifies which clerk is responsible for copies and certification.
Read every case separately One booking may produce several cause numbers with different results.
Find the actual disposition Look for dismissal, rejection, plea, deferred adjudication, conviction, acquittal or another court action.
Open available case documents Dallas County states that documents for most felony cases filed after 2009 are available online.

Use an accepted payment method Dallas County lists cash, cashier’s check or money order payable to Dallas County for an eligible cash bond.
Do not bring a debit or credit card for a cash bond The Sheriff states that cards are not accepted for posting cash bonds.
Prepare proof of purchase for certain instruments A cashier’s check or money order must come from a local DFW financial institution and include proof of purchase.

Keep the receipt and written agreement Save the cause numbers, amount, payer, company, premium and collateral terms.
Allow time for release processing Payment is not the same as immediate physical release.
Scam warning: Dallas County specifically warns against demands to post jail bond through Cash App or another unofficial transfer. Western Union is currently listed as unavailable.

Errors, expunction and nondisclosure

Correct the owning system before seeking legal restriction

Identify the incorrect system Compare the jail lookup, arresting-agency report, clerk record and Texas DPS history.
Save the exact disputed entry Record the URL, book-in number, cause number, date viewed and incorrect field.
Obtain controlling proof Request the certified dismissal, judgment, acquittal, amended order or agency correction.
Contact the office that owns the error The jail cannot rewrite a Dallas Police narrative, and the clerk cannot independently alter an arresting-agency report.
Recheck connected databases One correction may not immediately update Texas DPS or a private reporting company.
Dispute private reports separately Send the certified disposition and identify the inaccurate record precisely.

Expunction

An eligible expunction can require covered agencies to destroy or remove qualifying arrest records. Eligibility is narrow and depends on the complete case history.

Read current Texas expunction guidance

Order of nondisclosure

An eligible nondisclosure order restricts public disclosure but does not erase every government record or prevent every authorised agency from viewing it.

Open Texas court forms
Correction and clearing are different. Correction addresses inaccurate data. Expunction or nondisclosure addresses an accurate record that may qualify for legal relief.

Dallas-specific mistakes

Avoid these common lookup and jail-service problems

Looking for a chronological bookings list

The current public form searches people, book-in numbers and cases. Confirm recency from the result’s book-in date.

Leaving race or sex blank

The prisoner name form currently requires both fields in addition to first and last name.

Paying from the total bond alone

Review each charge, $0 entry and hold before assuming the displayed total produces release.

Mailing personal letters to the legal-mail address

Current personal mail goes through the Florida processing centre. Attorney correspondence follows separate instructions.

Using an old phone provider

The current Sheriff telephone page directs users to SmartInmate. Avoid relying on older archived provider instructions.

Taking a phone to visitation

Cellphones are prohibited, including when a visitor relies on one to operate an electric vehicle.

10 Dallas County questions

Dallas County arrest and recent-booking questions answered

How do I search recent Dallas County jail bookings?

Use the official Dallas County Jail Lookup. The current public form does not provide a separate chronological recent-bookings feed. Search by prisoner information, book-in number or case number, then open the result and check the book-in date. A prisoner-information search requires the first and last name plus race and sex; adding the date of birth helps narrow similar names.

What information appears in a Dallas County jail lookup result?

A result may show the booked name, race, sex, date of birth, jail location, tank location, book-in number, book-in date, charges, individual bond amounts, warrant or cause numbers, magistrate, holds and total bond. The information reflects the jail and court data available at that time and does not prove guilt.

Why can I not find someone in the Dallas County Jail Lookup?

The person may still be processing, may have been released quickly, may be listed under a different spelling, may have been booked by another county or may have received a citation without entering the county jail. Retry the name with the correct race and sex selections, use the book-in or case number when known, search Dallas County criminal court records and call inmate information at 214-761-9025 when necessary.

Does the Dallas County jail search show the final court outcome?

No. The jail lookup shows booking, custody, charge and bond information. Search the Dallas County criminal court portal to review filed felony and misdemeanor cases. The District Clerk maintains felony records, while the County Clerk maintains Class A and Class B misdemeanor records.

Where can I post a Dallas County jail bond?

An adult may post an eligible bond in person at the Dallas County Bond Desk in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center, 111 West Commerce Street, Dallas, Texas 75202. The desk operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dallas County does not accept debit or credit cards for cash bonds; accepted methods include cash, an eligible cashier’s check or money order.

How do I visit someone in the Dallas County Jail?

Confirm the jail location and book-in number first. In-person visitation for last names A through L is generally Monday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Last names M through Z are generally Tuesday and Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Weekend visitation for all last names is generally 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors should review the current identification, visitor-card, dress and prohibited-item rules before travelling.

How do I schedule Dallas County video visitation?

Register and schedule through SmartInmate. Dallas County’s dedicated video-visitation page currently says visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours ahead and last 20 minutes, while another Sheriff update page displays different advance-notice and duration information. Use the confirmation shown by SmartInmate for the selected appointment and check the current Sheriff page before paying.

What is the Dallas County inmate mailing address?

Current personal mail instructions direct correspondence to the inmate’s booked name and book-in number, care of the Mail Processing Center, P.O. Box 9226, Seminole, Florida 33775-9226. Include the sender’s full name and return address. Attorney mail uses a separate Dallas address, and mail sent to the personal-mail processing centre is not confidential.
